{"id":204,"date":"2008-06-18T10:15:49","date_gmt":"2008-06-18T00:15:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dixonarchive.com\/blog\/?p=204"},"modified":"2008-06-18T10:15:49","modified_gmt":"2008-06-18T00:15:49","slug":"windows-vista-in-june-2008","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dixonarchive.com\/blog\/2008\/windows-vista-in-june-2008\/","title":{"rendered":"Windows Vista in June 2008"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Life with Vista has changed dramatically since my last post.\u00a0 You see after uninstalling Norton from my computer after their attempt to automatically &#8216;renew my subscription&#8217; by default &#8211; the cheek of it &#8211; I looked for alternate virus software.<\/p>\n<p>The new one is from McAfee called the Total Protection suit.\u00a0 This combination of programs claims to protect you from all nasties that hang around the internet.\u00a0 I bought the versions with multiple user licenses.<\/p>\n<p>There aren&#8217;t too many really positive reviews about this piece of software so I wasn&#8217;t sure &#8211; but the fact that I do not take online reviews as truth &#8211; especially from print magazines these days I bought it anyway.\u00a0 Secretly their comments did effect me but I installed it anyway.\u00a0\u00a0 I prefer user reviews these days.<\/p>\n<p>So here&#8217;s my review of the Norton Total Protection Suite 2008.<\/p>\n<p>First I turned of all networking and internet connections.<br \/>\nUninstalled Norton with norton removal tool and checked to ensure everything was removed.<br \/>\nI then selected install the version from disc rather than downloading another over the internet.<br \/>\nInstalling Mcafee software was simple and much quicker than the Norton.<br \/>\nYou have to register for automatic virus and software updates.<br \/>\nTotal proctection had many prompts about wanting you to send anonamyous virus info to them.<br \/>\nThere are about 8 separate products you can install form the suite.<br \/>\nYou must choose Mcafee Security Center &#8211; that&#8217;s the control panel for all the programs.<br \/>\nApart from that I only chose Mcafee Anti-virus and the firewall.<br \/>\nVista already various malware programs running so didn&#8217;t bother with the others.<br \/>\nI may install the others at a later date.<\/p>\n<p>Connected the internet connection back on.<br \/>\nOnce installed the program went about the process of registration &#8211; not intrusive just name and email address.<br \/>\nThen the program went about downloading the latest updates.<br \/>\nEverything went smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>About 15 minutes later everything was updated.<br \/>\nI rebooted and cheers.<\/p>\n<p>I was also impressed that the Vista and the computer appeared to worked faster than with Norton installed.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll report next month on whether everything is still working.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Life with Vista has changed dramatically since my last post.\u00a0 You see after uninstalling Norton from my computer after their attempt to automatically &#8216;renew my subscription&#8217; by default &#8211; the cheek of it &#8211; I looked for alternate virus software.
