Honda HR-V Vs Ford Ecosport comparison

Ford Ecosport

VS

Honda HR-V

Welcome to the Ford Ecosport vs all new Honda HR-V comparison. We regard the Ford Ecosport highly in many areas but not overall whereas the HR-V impresses straight away. The Ecosport is smaller than the HR-V in all dimensions except for the height and id currently the smallest small SUV currently available.  We believe it could be highly popular, it’s interior presentation the key factor which lets the package down.

Ford Ecosport vs Honda HR-V exterior: The Ford Ecosport looks like a traditionally styled 4Wd and is the smallest of the small SUV class at the moment. It’s honestly almost the perfect size for what the many buyers want aka city commuting. It looks OK on the outside and the only real visual flaw is probably the relatively small wheels since the body is quite large. The HR-V looks big in pictures but less so in real life, it’s width makes it look and feel bigger. Overall the HR-V looks more modern and arguably the better looking car. That said the Ecosport is not exactly ugly.

Ford Ecosport vs Honda HR-V interior: Easy win to the HR-V in the interior look, feel and quality. The HR-V also has the very key selling point of having the option of a very large sunroof. The Ecosport interior needs an update however thanks to a lower price helps but not enough. Strangely despite similar widths the HR-V felt more spacious. The short cuts in the HR-V are cleverly hidden whereas the Ecosport presents its self as a more basic transportation, we wished that it had more of the Focus or Kuga quality as currently it’s not very impressive.

Ford Ecosport vs Honda HR-V engine and technology: The top range Ecosport has the benchmark 3 cylinder 1 litre turbo engine and the model equipped with this engine is the one to get. That said the Japanese have been turbo charging even smaller engines namely the ‘Kei class’ 3 cylinder 660cc for over 30 years! The HR-V has a regular modern engine but produces enough power to compete with the others. Safety and in car comms tech available on both models but the HR-V has more! which include safety with auto braking at low speeds, lane departure, flat tyre warning and lots of cameras on some models.

Ford Ecosport vs Honda HR-V road test: N/A

To conclude we think the Honda easily has the presentation edge. The HR-V does look and feel good overall – very good package apart from pricing which is entirely justified when compared to the Ecosport. The Ford has the best advantage of a noticeably lower price by about $3000. The Ford Ecosport needs an interior update quickly since that is the only area that is preventing would be buyers choosing it. Choose the HR-V for sophistication and the Ecosport for utility and a lower price.
