Welcome to the Jeep Cherokee vs Hyundai Tucson comparison. New for 2016 the Hyundai Tucson looks great on the outside and looks like a direct competitor to the Jeep Cherokee due to pricing and size. That said competitors only in those two areas since the the Jeep has the option of a real 4WD system. We like both for different reasons so interested to see how they compare.
Jeep Cherokee vs Hyundai Tucson exterior comparison: The Tucson looks good overall conservative and sporty the perfect template for an SUV. The Jeep Cherokee exterior design is an acquired taste. Overall it does work and the most ‘controversial’ design choice is mainly directed at the front end, after all sticking on a regular front end like the Tucson would be too normal, the rest of the body is quite normal though. We like the design choice by Jeep as the Cherokee does stand out and yet not what anyone here would call ugly. A bit like what they did with the Kia Sportage. We like both designs and consider them equal for different reasons.
Jeep Cherokee vs Hyundai Tucson interior comparison: The Jeep wins the interior comparison as it feel like a higher quality place to be in and the higher the model buy the better the interior. The graphics, buttons, knobs and quality plastics are all better then the Hyundai. The Tucson looks and feels quite normal to be in which is fair enough but not as nice as the Jeep Cherokee – which surprised us. Easy win to the Cherokee in this comparison.
Jeep Cherokee vs Hyundai Tucson engines and technology: The Jeep Cherokee has all the latest tech dependent on which model you get and out features the Tucson. The Cherokee has things like remote start, built it garage door remote, branded stereo system, ambient lighting, lots of hidden under seat and rear storage, electric rear hatch, 9 speed gearbox and so forth. The biggest problem with the Cherokee is of course reliability, it already doesn’t have a good track record with many recalls and complaints since release. The Hyundai Tucson we know will be the model of reliability which is expected of any Hyundai these days but we can’t help that feeling that the warranty claims are too good to be true.
Jeep Cherokee vs Hyundai Tucson drive comparison: No drive of the Tucson but the Jeep Cherokee really quite nice, the steering feel, ride and handling is good and the only issue is probably the stop start and gearbox in city traffic. We presume they’ve fix the problem by now.
The winner of the Jeep Cherokee Vs Hyundai Tucson is – a tie/draw/equal etc… Why? the only reason the result is a draw is because of the reliability aspect of the any Jeep, otherwise it would win this comparison. On paper the Jeep Cherokee especially the top range Cherokee Trailhawk version has all the features including a proper 4WD system and all the safety and comfort options you could want and it’s pricing is just about right. The Hyundai Tucson is underpowered and under specced when compared to the Cherokee.
