This is the new Mazda CX-30 Vs Mitsubishi ASX comparison for 2020. Continuing our series of comparisons with the updated 2020 Mitsubishi ASX, it is time to look at the new Mazda CX-30. That’s not a typo, it’s model designation is CX-30 and it is based on the newest Mazda 3 hatchback and not a replacement for the CX-3 which is based on the Mazda 2. Clearly model planning didn’t look far enough.

Mazda CX-30 Vs Mitsubishi ASX exterior: As with Mazda’s latest styling language used on other models the CX-30 is a good looking car or SUV. We think the CX-30 design is similar to the theme used by Alfa Romeo 159 series (over 1o years ago) but there are enough differences not to call it a copy. While similar in looks to the Mazda3 hatchback the CX-30 is not a cut and paste job. Finally the black plastic cladding is a bit excessive in a similar vein to the Subaru Outback but if that styling choice makes it and SUV than so be it, but purely for marketing purposes. The ASX may be updated for 2020 and it does look contemporary for 2020 but it is a more rugged look at than the sleek CX-30.

Mazda CX-30 Vs Mitsubishi ASX interior: The interior of the CX-30 is a great place to be and upmarket to be in regardless model grade and the higher the model grade even better. We like the combination of screen and dials but the angled centre screen design may be on trend but the more common and usually larger rectangle is much better. In comparison the ASX interior is looking and feeling a little cheap.

Mazda CX-30 Vs Mitsubishi ASX engine and technology: There are currently two engine choices in the CX-30 borrowed forth Mazda 3 Hatchback. Nothing wrong with them as they are arguably the most advanced and efficient non-turbo engines in the world. Safety systems are all there but the high end model grades are options. In comparison the ASX engines produce similar power and are less efficient. Furthermore if you ever drive an ASX you’ll discover the boring nature of the engine transmission combo.

The winner of the Mazda CX-30 Vs Mitsubishi ASX is a draw. The ASX has lots to commend and so does the CX-30 and we looked at the complete model grades and pricing for both brands to determine the winner. The top range ASX costs about $3000 more than the entry level CX-30 excluding on roads and dealer charges and so forth. So as a buyer you’d would probably only consider between these two model grades if you where comparing them. Essentially it’s the ASX’s old school drive characteristics, forgivable due to the price difference against the CX-30’s standout interior and modern driving and refinement.
