This is the new Hyundai Kona Vs MG4 Electric comparison for 2024. The Hyundai Kona was one of the first electric car from the company, the Ioniq was the first but let’s face it, was really a poor homage to the Toyota Prius. This comparison is the is 2024 update. The MG4 Electric is an all new model and currently one of the cheapest all electric car in Australia. So how do they compare?
Hyundai Kona Vs MG4 Electric exterior comparison: Both are very similar in design but we think the MG4 has the better more cohesive look overall. The Kona simply has awkward side creases don’t match and highlight it as a carry over design. They are both older looking designs but nothing to truly offend anyone. However it is the Kona that has the most flaws. The biggest problem of the Kona is the horizontal led strip on the hatch of which 99% do not align with the strip on the edges of the Kona. Once you see it you cannot stop and reminds you the Hyundai still is a ‘cheap’ car without the cheaper price tag. The MG4 does not have any of that although it too has Hyundai’s visibly lower paint quality.
Hyundai Kona Vs MG4 Electric interior comparison: The Kona has finally received the interior upgrade it needed. The original interior was very entry level place to be in. The new interior is much better place, with the digital dash panel consistent through out the Hyundai range, however it still looks little cheap. The rest of the button package is also nice to have with lots of button for climate control. However it is still better than the cheap and standard interior package in the MG4, regardless of model grade.
Hyundai Kona Vs MG4 Electric engine and technology comparison: Both are front drive electric cars and as a result has standard traction and steering issues. The motor technology on both are class standard so quite high power dependent on model grade but lower torque. While both electric motors have class average electric consumption of around 17Kw so it is not close to the Tesla efficiency standard. The Kona has free app based functions for 5 years which is the warranty period, likewise the MG4.
Hyundai Kona Vs MG4 Electric drive report and Street Cred: No comment but TBD.
The conclusion and winner of the Hyundai Kona Vs MG4 Electric comparison is the MG4. The Kona doesn’t win because it is still expensive even with the multi tiered model range. You wouldn’t buy the top range Kona which is priced that same for the same price as a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y for example. However the MG4 at least $14000 cheaper than the base Kona electric or if you want performance the $59990 top ranger MG4 has everything including performance that the Kona doesn’t not.
Note: Due to competition the title of the cheapest Electric car in Australia changes randomly due to unpredictable price changes.
