This is the new Nissan Qashqai Vs Toyota Yaris Cross comparison for 2023. The Yaris Cross is a surprising, small and unrecognised SUV that doesn’t technically compete with the Qashqai except in terms of price. The new Qashqai is an interesting model that we haven’t found appealing to date, unlike the prior model, so this will be an interesting comparison.
Nissan Qashqai Vs Toyota Yaris Cross exterior comparison: As we’ve said before the Qashqai is an nice looking contemporary design that doesn’t stand out. It’s ultimately a conservative design that blends in with any other reasonably new model SUV. In comparison the Yaris Cross was initially a awkward looking design that bears no resemblance to the Yaris small car, other than in underbody design and engine options. The design has grown on us over time and its nice enough and different enough not to age. In some trim grades the Yaris Cross appears more upmarket than the Qashqai.
Nissan Qashqai Vs Toyota Yaris Cross interior comparison: The interior of the Qashqai is similarly nice but generic. There is none of that Nissan look or feel in the cabin that has been in use for decades. In comparison the Yaris Cross interior is different from any other small SUV in design and definitely materials. The top range Yaris Cross has a brown leather interior at a guess and the plastics throughout are hard and cheapish looking – through out the rest of the range. It is not a spacious interior merely adequate. We prefer the Qashqai interior despite being generic.
Nissan Qashqai Vs Toyota Yaris Cross engine and technology comparison: Neither have any truly innovative tech or safety features and mostly dependent on model grade. However the Yaris Cross has the trump card of the hybrid engine and as a result is arguably the most fuel efficient small SUV on sale at the time this review. The tech spec numbers don’t reflect real world performance which is pretty good, drive one for yourself.
The conclusion and winner of the Nissan Qashqai Vs Toyota Yaris Cross comparison is the Yaris Cross. Ignoring the size difference the Yaris Cross costs less to buy and thanks to the hybrid engine is more economical and hence cheaper to run. The Qashqai is not a bad SUV, it is expensive for what it is and to be completely honest only the nicer sounding stereo system, when Bose is equipped and size make it worth considering over the Yaris Cross.
