This is the Peugeot 3008 Vs the all new Jeep Compass comparison for 2018. The Jeep Compass is an ‘all new’ 2018 model and much needed update to the original release 10 years ago and the heavily revised model 5 years ago. The original Compass was quite different to a traditional Jeep design and it didn’t sell very well. The new model is clearly designed to look like a smaller Grand Cherokee which is debatably better looking. The 3008 is one of favourite SUVs for many reason and due to size and pricing worth a comparison.
Peugeot 3008 Vs Jeep Compass exterior comparison: The 3008 is the style leader as we’ve said before, while the new Compass is a complete redesign of the original model’s final refresh. The Compass now looks like a smaller Grand Cherokee and if you like the design then you’ll like this one. Overall the Compass is conservative and certainly old looking which is arguably the point of the new design. In the end the 3008 looks like a $40000 car and the Compass a little cheaper but which one looks better is definitely your opinion.
Peugeot 3008 Vs Jeep Compass interior comparison: The 3008 is on point again as the style leader in the interior quality and design – it’s a nice place to be in regardless of model grade. The Compass has a nice interior, quality plastics and design are pretty good for 2018. Sure the Compass interior is not pushing the design envelope but it looks good, works well and if there is anything to complain about is the ridiculous cheap looking start/stop button on the steering column, large bezels on the centre console screen and air vents that cheapen the look. Bonus points for the front passenger under seat storage and one of the highest driver’s seat risers we’ve tested to date.
Peugeot 3008 Vs Jeep Compass engine and technology comparison: Safety systems are all there in both SUVs so it is really the equipment and model grade comparison that you really need to look at when buying. The main difference in the drive train is the 3008 lacks a real off road system. The Jeep Compass comes with a ‘Trail Rated’ model which means it’s got low range gear ratios and added ride height for more off road ability. It is also important to note that the range topping Trailhawk has a Diesel engine and it is unfortunate that a lot of the equipment like the safety systems, fully electric seat, sunroof, even push mutton start is optional in all models. The final flaw in half the Jeep Compass range is that it’s can’t tow anything. Only 4WD models do you get 1000Kg in the mid range AWD or 1500Kg on the Trailhawk models.
The engines and transmissions in both are pretty much the same with 6 speed automatic and a small turbo petrol engine. The Compass does have a diesel engine option which is surprising in 2018 and from an US based manufacturer. The range topping Compass Trailhawk also has a tougher 4WD system and a 9 speed automatic which includes extra lower range gears.
The stereo system in the Jeep Compass when equipped is branded as a Beats. We are mentioning this as it’s the first of the known ‘music’ brands that we’ve managed to listen to hence a more detailed review. Beats to many is only known for it’s headphones which sound decent built with high quality materials. The Beats stereo system in the Compass does not sound like the headphones the sound quality is many good. The subwoofer is more a mid woofer as it is distinct and directional when it’s working. The Beats stereo is nice and loud but missing ambience probably because the sound its self is clear with a proper sub woofer. Any BOSE system equipped SUV are louder but actually has an ambience but not as clear. In the end the Beats system in any of the Jeeps are great for a standard stereo but definitely not the best or immediately impressive.
Peugeot 3008 Vs Jeep Compass drive report : N/A
The conclusion and winner of the Peogeot 3008 Vs Jeep Compass comparison is the 3008. The Jeep Compass can never win comparison or review because all the best safety systems are part of an option package for 2018. Even worse they are optional on all model grades. Perhaps they may add it as standard as a future upgrade? The pricing for the Jeep Compass is very much a guide! Starting at approx $29000 for the base manual so the real starting price is 36,000 with the much needed safety pack and automatic and that’s before dealer and on road costs. In the end the base Jeep Compass is not cheap compared to the 3008. Note that the top range Trailhawk with all the options is more expensive than the 3008 with the only advantage of a real 4WD system.
