This is Tesla Model Y Vs MG4 Electric and MG4 Electric and XPower comparison for 2024. MG is a former British brand that made high desirable cars back in the 1960’s and mainly remembered for it’s sports car series MG A – F. Now under complete Chinese ownership the MG brand has been revived into a more generic models often rebadged form other brands the SAIC motor group owns. Of course every one is waiting for a MGB revival – unfortunately the take buyers won’t be here much longer if they don’t hurry up. The Tesla Model Y is the most popular electric SUV on the planet at the time of posting – so i the Model Y really deserve the sales?

Tesla Model Y Vs MG4 Electric and MG4 XPower exterior comparison: You could never mistake the two models if you see them on the road regardless of colour. The MG4 is a wedge shape looking as close to a door stopper as you can get. It is Ok to at, at best and dated at the worst. In comparison the Model Y look Ok at best and bloated at worst. Neither super models in term of exterior deign.

Tesla Model Y Vs MG4 Electric and MG4 XPower interior comparison: The Model Y is the bigger the SUV on the inside and it is  layout is more Model 3 lift back than an SUV. The MG4 is not really an SUV it is more a high rise hatchback and front engine hatchback at that. Both are not the pinnacle of efficient space design. However in terms of interior design the Model Y is almost as minimal as you can get but the materials are good, so overall a nice place to be in. In comparison the MG4 interior is a decent place as well but is clearly a cheaper interior to be in.

Tesla Model Y Vs MG4 Electric and MG4 XPower engine and technology comparison: Since the Model Y shares the drive train and tech from the Model 3, it has equal capability and class leading tech if you pay for the optional autonomous driving package. That said the Autopilot system, which is a more advanced adaptive cruise control is very good and best in class. Performance is not a good as the Model 3 it is based on. In comparison the MG4 has plenty of tech and performance but missing some key features like one pedal driving. The MG4 Xpower variant with it’s 0-100kph sprint of 4 seconds is very fast in inexpensive for performance. The basic MG4 however is front drive and quite zippy for an inexpensive vehicle regardless of class. In fact all MG4 variants are performance sleepers.

Tesla Model Y Vs MG4 Electric and MG4 XPower drive report and Street Cred : All Teslas have plenty for street and they do deserve it. We think they have the best balance of performance and battery life with leading edge autonomous driving tech. In comparison the MG4 has isn’t quite there yet in terms of brand awareness or acknowledgment to rival Tesla just yet. However if they stick with with low pricing with lots of performance they could start something…

The conclusion and winner of the Tesla Model Y Vs MG4 Electric + XPower comparison is the MG4 Electric and variants. It is clear that the MG4 has the best price to performance ratio in terms of straight line performance. It is what Nissan could have done with the original Nissan Leaf but stupidly didn’t due to pricing. The MG4 Electric is Not the most luxurious, comfortable or space efficient or even the most efficient electric drive train aka battery usage but it is currently equal in price to a decent petrol or hybrid vehicle. If your daily drive is less than 150km a day in high traffic conditions this is better the better vehicle to buy and much cheaper to run. Even more so if you don’t have a fast charger at home. Of course the biggest problem with the MG4 Electric is how long will the MG4 stay reliable for?
