Toyota CH-R Vs Mazda CX-3 Comparison

Mazda CX-3

Welcome to the all new Toyota CH-R Vs CX-3 comparison for 2017.  The Mazda CX-3 is one of our favourite SUVs thanks to style, quality, pricing and drive experience. We’ve done plenty of comparisons and reviews with the CX-3 and it has been the preferred model in most of them. The all new CH-R is arguably the best looking small SUV on sale at least in pictures but to us it does not look as good in real life. Maybe it’s the wheels or colours on the display models.

Toyota CH-R Vs Mazda CX-3 exterior comparison: We like the CX-3 looks, it curves are in the right places along with chrome highlights on some models and even dual exhausts for more sports styling. They should be commended for doing this when there is not technical reason to except for good looks. Any CX-3 doesn’t generally look like the entry level model to the Mazda SUV range just a smaller one in the Mazda range. The Toyota CH-R has great styling and we think it’s sporty and futuristic, it’s like a template for what cars in 2017 and beyond should look like. We prefer the CH-R looks compared to the CX-3.

Toyota CH-R Vs Mazda CX-3 interior comparison: The CX-3 has great interior design that is modern and filled with nice materials with a retro touches that works well together. There is very little to complain about in the Mazda except for rear entry and space.  The CX-3 feels more higher end place to be in compared to other small SUV, especially when option with a multi colours interior pack for a few hundred dollars which incidentally is great value! The CH-R interior in comparison is also nice place to be in but more conventional – very Toyota. As a SUV that sells for round $30000 for the entry level model it feels worth the money but high in the range less so. On the other hand the CX-3 interior although smaller looks and feels more modern but importantly, stylish. Get the additional interior styling pack and you’ll be more than satisfied. When comparing these two while the interior in any CH-R is the same we feel the CX-3 is the nicer looking place to be in.

Toyota CH-R Vs Mazda CX-3 engines and and technology comparison: Both cars a pretty much equal in their technology specifications however there are a few things you will need to cosier if buying either. The CX-3 has more advanced  technology than the CH-R in general. The CH-R only has more safety features as standard. You see the CX-3 has the the most advanced non-turbo engine in the world that meets existing emissions standards. This means it has a progressive power band and is more easily controlled nicer to drive. The regular automatic gearbox also means that the CX-3 drives properly without turbo lag bar the diesel that you’ll experience with the CH-R combined with its CVT gearbox. Even with a manual gearbox the CX-3 will be the better car to drive no test needed to explain. The disappointing thing about both models though is the sound quality it’s terrible for cars costing this much. There are so many speakers in both cars but quality is average. That said the top range CX-3 has a BOSE branded system is nice but not great sound and but the CH-R has the same very ordinary system throughout the range.

Mazda CX-3 Vs Toyota CH-R drive comparison: The Mazda CX-3 drives well under the 80kph limit it handles just as as well as a Corolla as a reference point. It is not that over the top noisy compared to other small SUVs we’ve driven but disappoints because it’s not as refined as it’s looks suggest. Yet to drive the CH-R at the time of this comparison.

The winner of the Mazda CX-3 Vs Toyota CH-R comparison is the CX-3. As a small SUV overall the CX-3 is a very good package, arguable the best. The CH-R would have been a better package if they had optioned it with a more powerful engine because as is the CH-R is a little underpowered on the road. It’s retail price is also a bit of a problem because a base model is over $30,000 which is overpriced for the level of performance. If not for the performance the ordinary sounding stereo will put you off buying one. However at least you’ll look good in it. Meanwhile the CX-3 has an attention grabbing under $20K base model and only in the mid range CX-3 do you get the same levels of equipment as the CH-R and the option of a diesel engine.Although both are evenly priced you get overall less in the CH-R. At least in the CX-3 you have more performance hence the winner in this comparison.
