Toyota Corolla Cross VS Mazda CX-3 Comparison

Toyota Corolla Cross

Mazda CX-3

This is the new Toyota Corolla Cross vs Mazda CX-3 comparison for 2023. We have liked and Mazda CX-3 from the very start. It is the package that made this model appealing and popular in certain markets. So how does the new Toyota Corolla Cross package compare to the 10 year old Mazda CX-3 design.

Toyota Corolla Cross vs Mazda CX-3 exterior design: No question the Corolla Cross is a conservative design. It looks at least a generation back from the latest 2023 models released by every other manufacturer except for VW of course. However the design is deliberate to not offend any one. IN comparison the CX-3 design may have been designed 10 years ago but it still looks like contemporary model despite receiving minimal updates. However the CX-3 is the smaller SUV but it looks good.

Toyota Corolla Cross vs Mazda CX-3 interior: The standard dark interior of CX-3 may turn some off some potential buyers but there are colour options. Despite the small interior based on the Mazda2, the design is retro modern and the hard plastics are better looking than your average softer versions. Things like the back lit conventional dials with a fancy markers and just it’s solidity leaves a great impression. In comparison the Corolla Cross interior is very Toyota-ish in looking and feeling good but a dated design. The materials do not reflect what you would expect in the car costing this much feeling a little underdone.

Toyota Corolla Cross vs Mazda CX-3 engines and technology: The Corolla Cross has all the safety tech you’d expect as standard which is impressive but expected for the price. The Hybrid engines are the hallmark of power and economy. In comparison the CX-3 has the latest non-hybrid engines that have impressive power and economy but clearly not par with the Corolla Cross. The CX-3 safety systems unfortunately are based on model grade.

The conclusion and winner of the Toyota Corolla Cross vs Mazda CX-3 comparison is a draw. In the end they are quite different SUVs especially in terms of size and driving dynamics which are the two factors that will ultimately effect which one you buy. The CX-3 is a more engaging drive and the Corolla Cross is not. The Corolla Cross is larger and the CX-3 is small. Pricing literally cross over but the entry level CX-3 is pretty good and arguably better buy than the entry level Corolla Cross as it at least $5000 cheaper. Whereas the top range CX-3 is rather expensive but the top Corolla Cross is another $10000. So there is no outright technical winner – really depends on what you need it for and what sort of driver you are.
