One of the CX-30’s logical competitors in the size and price segment is the Hyundai Kona. The Kona has been around for a few years and we do like it’s exterior but the interior and packing was a let down. While we don’t think out opinion will change we wanted to see how the specs compared.

Mazda CX-30 vs Hyundai Kona exterior design : The Kona looks good in a more rugged, arguably and stereotypically North American by way of Subaru from Japan. We think it still looks good and in top model grade mostly justifies it’s price tag. The CX-30 is clearly inspired by the rest of the Mazda range via Alfa Romeo from Italy. It does look good but design commonality with the rest of the Mazda range makes it stand out less which could be an issue. Overall silhouette of both cars are very similar which incidentally is

Mazda CX-30 vs Hyundai Kona interior: While in isolation the Kona’s as a decent interior but when compared with everything else the Kona’s interior is still a under-average place to be in, revealing it’s i3o small car basis and inherently Hyundai’s deliberate positioning in the market. The interior was worse than the competition when it was released and still is at the bottom of the pack. You can even see the base of the carpet due to the thin soft layer! The CX-30 is a much nicer place to be in regardless of model grade.

Mazda CX-30 vs Hyundai Kona engines and technology: The Kona has pretty standard engine choices shared with the i30 hatchback. The standout is the turbo petrol which makes it more drivable when on boost although it doesn’t make anymore power than the CX-30 non-turbo engines. The Kona’s DCT gearbox is a concern but then you are covered by the 7 year warranty which is nice, but whether Hyundai will honour gearbox problems is a question mark since they can always claim wear and tear. We presume they would since most complaints have resulted in replacements so far. The CX-30 has more safety systems as standard and a better sound system further shows the Kona’s aged specs, even more than released 2 years ago.

The conclusion to the new Mazda CX-30 vs Hyundai Kona comparison is the CX-30. The CX-30 has a nicer exterior, interior and better equipment list. It’s a modern and upmarket place to be and seen in. In comparison the Hyundai Kona exterior is nice but the interior is not. We wouldn’t pay that much money to live with that sort of interior everyday or having to claimed safety package that are not equal. Eg.entry level Kona claims that safety package as the top range Kona by using the same SmartSense TM package but clearly they are not equal. Call them what they are don’t try to confuse people. Furthermore when you play with the number of seat back pockets and try to hide missing safety systems on a misleading safety package branding truly indicate you are buying budget brand.

// google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
