The CX-3 hasn’t been updated since it’s release in 2014 and it’s design at that time was ahead of the competition and we liked it and other reasons. With the release of the new Ford Puma we are comparing the two to see if the Mazda CX-3 is still worth buying or should the Puma be on top of your shopping list.

Ford Puma vs Mazda CX-3 exterior: The Puma uses Ford’s latest design language it genuinely looks good after a little while. To us the Puma looks like a small Jaguar or even a Porsche so has a sporting style to it. The CX-3 design in comparison still looks up to date – we don’t think is aged. The CX-3 looks better on the outside but we don’t think there’s much difference on the inside. We like both designs but tend to look at the more intriguing Ford Puma.

Ford Puma vs Mazda CX-3 interior: The CX-3 interior is a nice place to be making hard plastic actually look good. The availability of colour options also help personalise and improve the interior ambience. Since the interior is shared with the MX-5 adds some sportiness to it’s look. The Ford Puma has a decent interior as well and the large digital panel is quite flashy if optioned. It does catch your attention so eyes tend to ignore the quite ordinary design elsewhere. Since they are both nice for the price and different it’s a personal choice.

Ford Puma vs Mazda CX-3 engine and technology: For us the mechanical package of the CX-3 is the selling point. It comes with good standard safety systems and high efficient conventional engine specs. The Mazda’s 2 litre engine is arguably the most efficient non-turbo engine on sale at the moment with high torque at relatively low diesel engine like revs is a good drive when commuting. The AWD option also scores additional points. The Ford Puma has a 1.0 litre turbo that almost matches the CX-3 in terms of outright power although neither cars are particularly fast. Safety systems are dependent on model grade and specials.

The winner of the Ford Puma vs Mazda CX-3 comparison is the CX-3. The CX-3 may be 4 years older than the Puma but it has stood the test of time. Why would you buy a Ford Puma over the CX-3? your decision will probably be based on brand, looks and price and how it drives rather than a detailed spec or showroom comparison like this.

Mazda CX-3

Ford Puma

Engines

IL4 Cylinder Petrol
DOHC EFI
2.0 Litre (1998cc)
Claimed 109Kw @ 6000RPM
Claimed 192Nm @ 2800PM

3 Cylinder petrol (95 Octane)
1.0 Litre (999cc)
Turbo DOHC VVT DI EFI
Claimed 92Kw @ 6000RPM
Claimed 170Nm @ 1500RPM

IL4 cylinder Diesel
1.5 Litre (1499cc)
Turbo-charged –
