Once again it’s a comparison between old and new. The Honda HR-V has been on sale for over 4 years and still doing great in the sales department. The Yaris Cross is yet another small SUV release for 2021 to sell along side the existing Toyota CH-R.

Toyota Yaris Cross Vs Honda HR-V exterior: The HR-V is clearly an older design but it still looks new enough in 2021. It’s popularity in parts of the world is due not only to the inoffensive design but an engine spec anomaly. The Yaris Cross is not visually based on the regular Yaris but like the prior generation Daihatsu that was only available in Europe and Japan. It modern yet typically Toyota design that doesn’t reflect it’s current range of SUV design language – it’s not sexy either.

Toyota Yaris Cross Vs Honda HR-V interior: The Yaris Cross interior is contemporary and Toyota’s attempt at making a cheap but youthful interior to appeal to it’s target market. It’s reminiscent of what they with the original RAV4, as a youthful design almost 30 years ago. Unfortunately the interior is not exactly an upmarket place to be with a hard plastics that look hard and a design that is only new enough. Plenty of useful space for its size but does not reflect it’s asking price. The HR-V interior is a nicer place to be in although it doesn’t have a 2021 feel to it. It’s looks and feels like Honda’s of the past but refined for the 2020’s. It must be noted that the analogue and digital screen combo with touch controls work better than expected.

Toyota Yaris Cross Vs Honda HR-V engine and technology: Unlike Honda’s of the past i.e. 20 years ago there is nothing sporting about it’s engine and tech layouts, even it’s safety packages are a bit ordinary. The HR-V is a little underdone even compared to the base model Yaris Cross. The engine and safety tech is what the Yaris Cross is all about. The Hybrid engine probably the same as the Yaris and Prius C and consistently efficient. Power figures on paper look weak but like small turbo 3 cylinders has adequate mid range power. Safety systems also include standard active cruise control and auto brakes across the range. The Yaris Cross also offers the option of AWD which is currently missing on most of the competition.

Toyota Yaris Cross Vs Honda HR-Vroad test: N/A

The winner of the Toyota Yaris Cross Vs Honda HR-V comparison is the Yaris Cross but only just. The Honda is old school and can’t really be compared to the Yaris Cross despite it’s similar pricing. The HR-V is readily compared to the facelift Mitsubishi ASX rather than the more modern SUV in terms of tech. The Yaris Cross is expensive no doubt but it is inline with the latest small SUV and high rise hatchbacks released in the last 12 months.

// google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
