I put this page up so that you can compare purely for personal interest reasons. The Discovery was no longer available new at the time this was originally written.

The Discovery3 is a highly customizable car with even options on the type of roof and suspension types. Hence its base specification can vary quite a bit. Unfortunately it also makes it very expensive – but then its your money. The Discovery3 also has a number of 4wd technology features that reportedly make traveling over different forms of terrain easier.

The Discovery3 despite its boxy appearance was targetted at the upper end of the market and hence pricing to match. It did look good on the road and when equipped with proper engine went well too. Unfortunately it was prone to

To pick an easily understood example of why specifications are NOT the ultimate factor on what makes a car popular – take the example of the Toyota Corolla. It’s a consistent best seller in its class all over the world – not because it’s specifications are better than other competitors but other less tangible things like perception of reliability, reputation, cabin feel, style and price.
Both Prado and the Discovery 3 are lovely cars and choosing between would be a enviable position to be in – so enjoy the tests.

Note that specifications will change according to the trim models available and additional or less accessories. You should check the official Land Rover website for your country for the most up to date information.

120 series LandCruiser Prado (2002-2010)

Land Rover Discovery3

Engines

1GR-FE –
