It is only made in left hand drive. Originally made as a concept car it was released as a production model in 2006. It uses the same engine and basic frame as the 120 series Prado.

The FJ is rumored for Australian release at the end of 2010. Update: From reports in the papers and on the web it does look like a definite release but in 2011 following and interior refresh. Update 2012 We finally got a drive and will post the 150 series and FJ comparison and update this page shortly!)

The new FJ Cruiser is a retro-remake of the original FJ Land Cruiser of the 60’s much like the VW Beetle and the Mini. The exterior and interior of the FJ Cruiser is retro inspired with the latest technology. It also has ‘suicide doors’ like the Mazda RX-8. As a car – based on reviews on other sites many complain about poor ergonomics and un-Prado like refinement. I guess that means that it has more in common with Toyota’s commercial vehicles like the 70 series rather than passenger models. We will definitely give it a go when it is finally released.

I would buy one as an official import. It brings back memories of my original FJ Cruiser back in the early 80’s. Also it looks really cool and seems practical for passengers. The figures are from the brochure and converted to metric.

120 series LandCruiser Prado (2002-2010)

Toyota FJ Cruiser

Engines

1GR-FE –
