The Kona has scored a visual refresh for 2021, while the Stonic is a recently released model to the Australian market although available overseas since 2017. While the Kona is not Hyundai’s version of the Stonic or vice versa the price range do intersect.

Kia Stonic Vs Hyundai Kona exterior comparison: Hyundai’s styling department has had a bit of a relapse recently. Relapse into the 1980-1990 styling era of awkward (ugly) or best described as individual styling direction aka Tucson. They are trying to look different mostly… However the refreshed front end for the Kona is on the edge of challenging to look at compared to the original design. The Stonic is certainly not challenging to look and clearly designed on purpose to blend in with the resto fthe high rise hatchbacks. It is very conservative and derivative and cheap to look at especially if buying any model grade other than the top spec GT Line.

Kia Stonic Vs Hyundai Kona interior comparison: Both have entry level interior materials and design by 2021 standards. Neither will impress unless you are upgrading from a 12 year old car. They are nice enough but there are better for the same or cheaper price.

Kia Stonic Vs Hyundai Kona engine and technology comparison: Simply put the Kona has more powerful engines and borrowed from larger Hyundai models. A rebadged sporty model is a little insulting but a new electric engine are great for 2021 but has quite a price jump. The Kona is like the goal keeper in the Hyundai SUV range – that if nothing else fits in terms of price and size than the Kona is the final option. That means it gets no fancy tech except for more powerful turbo engine option and expected safety systems. The Stonic doesn’t have any fancy tech to point out except for it’s 3 cylinder turbo which while a modern design is down on power. Average safety systems is also a downer but at least low speed auto brakes are included.

Kia Stonic Vs Hyundai Kona drive report : N/A

The conclusion and winner of the Kia Stonic Vs Hyundai Kona comparison is the Kona. The Hyundai Kona is better value for money – it’s bigger, better equipped and faster. There are trade offs which include higher fuel consumption but that’s not enough of an issue not to win the comparison. If fuel consumption is an issue there is the battery or electric version but it priced at a premium.

Kia Stonic

Hyundai Kona

Engines

3 Cylinder –
