One of the the class leaders for us is the Mazda CX-5 for it styling and mechanical package. In comparison the new Outlander is beginning to look like just a compromised model that tries to appeal to as many buyers as possible who want a urban focus affordable and largish SUV.

Mitsubishi Outback Vs Mazda CX-5 exterior comparison: The new Outlander looks good! it uses a bold and brand definition aggressive front end, a bit more stylish side profile and rear end. Conservative it may be but it up there with the rest of it’s competitors. The CX-5 on the other hand has a cleaner and sportier look and inherently lighter and smaller – but it isn’t. The paint quality on the Mazda are visibly better than the Mitsubishi…

Mitsubishi Outback Vs Mazda CX-5 interior comparison: The Mitsubishi is a nice place to be in by 2022 standards. It’s not particularly special but it is airy but it could be a design used by any number of manufacturers. In comparison the Mazda CX-5 looks darker and the design is quite different from the Outlander. In fact it looks like a regular car but with higher seating. That said in 2022 and various world crises we think the trend to smaller more fuel efficient cars and SUVs has jut started and this may now be considered a large SUV!

Mitsubishi Outback Vs Mazda CX-5 engines and technology: The Outlander features lots of equipment but dependent on model grade but only has one engine option. It’s single engine option at the time of this comparison is it’s biggest shortfall. The engine produces empower but it engine level performance may irritate in the long term. The CX-5 on the other hand has at least 3 engine options along with safety systems. It is the engine options that win this aspect of the comparison.

In conclusion and winner to the Mitsubishi Outback Vs Mazda CX-5 comparison is the Mazda CX-5. The CX-5 has the engines that make it more performance orientated and it’s steering feel make it a more personal experience. Sure there is the trade mark under 3000 rpm – what we call the fuel efficiency mode but let’s not forget it is a largish high rise wagon but less so than the Outlander. Because we still have a pulse the Outlander is just another nicely styled SUV and there’s plenty to choose from in the class that try to do the same thing for the same price or less. So without a true selling feature we ask ourselves why consider?

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander

Mazda CX-5

Engines

IL Petrol (91 Octane)
DOHC Engine EFI
2.4 Litre (2488cc)
Claimed 135Kw @ 6000RPM
Claimed 245Nm @ 3600RPM

IL4 Cylinder Petrol
DOHC EFI VVT
2.0 Litre (1996cc)
Claimed 114Kw @ 6000RPM
Claimed 200Nm @ 4000RPM

IL4 Cylinder Petrol
2.5 Litre (2488cc)
DOHC Engine EFI
Claimed 138Kw @ 5700RPM
Claimed 250Nm @ 4000RPM

IL 4 Cylinder Twin Turbo Diesel
DI CR EFI
2.2 Litre (2191cc)
Claimed 129Kw @ 4500RPM
Claimed 420Nm @ 2000RPM

IL4 Cylinder Turbo Petrol
2.5 Litre (2488cc)
DOHC VVT EFI IC
Claimed 170Kw @ 5000RPM
Claimed 420Nm @ 2000RPM

Weight

Kerb weight FROM 1725Kg
Towing capacity up to 1600kg

FROM 1511 Kg
Towing capacity up to 1800kg

Fuel capacity &
