As the year comes to a close we managed to drive and compare the one of the newest, small and entry level SUVs from VW against one of the oldest models in the shape of the Mazda CX-3. While many will not consider the CX-3 due to it&#8217;s model age we found its selling point that the T-Cross can&#8217;t match and it makes the Mazda a simple decision which small SUV to buy.<\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen T- Cross Vs Mazda CX-3 exterior comparison: We prefer the CX-3 design as it defies it&#8217;s age and looks as new as much newer designs like the T-Cross. It&#8217;s unusual for a Japanese design that may be called a classic. The VW T-Cross design was old before it was even released but at at least it is based on the latest VW Polo platform. You truly need the optional design packs on the outside to make it look respectable by 2022 standards.<\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen T- Cross Vs Mazda CX-3 interior comparison: If you have owned a older VW Golf before but less so the Polo the interior of the T-Cross is not what you expect in a new VW in 2022. The design has been optimised for a centre screen now but the quality of materials has decreased. The fancy and optional digital screen does not compensate for everything else in the cabin when no options are fitted. In comparison the CX-3 has a more modern look, sporty and better quality materials. Admittedly it is dark and not as spacious. It&#8217;s feels like a more expensive car regardless of model grade comparison.<\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen T- Cross Vs Mazda CX-3 Drive report and Street Cred: The Volkwagen is boring and safe drive if you want an SUV that drives 10 year old Corolla but with newer suspension. It does drag it&#8217;s rear rather than being a cooperative. The engine may have a turbo but it doesn&#8217;t make enough grunt relying on the dodgy gearbox to make the most of high torque but low power characteristics. Great for commuting normally. The CX-3 is quite different compared to the VW in feeling more alive and sporty yet more reassuring handling. The trade off is the firmer suspension and the characteristics that entail but they have done a great job absorbing bumps yet allow much improve handling and feel compared to the T-Cross. Sometimes when cornering you wish it was a little harder for more fun&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen T- Cross Vs Mazda CX-3 engines and tech comparison: VW T-Cross has no engine options in Australia so we can&#8217;t complain about the rip off turbo tuning sales trick. However it still comes equipped with the DSG automatic which will turn some potential buyer away. As the T-Cross is based on the Polo the same features and issues apply to both models. The Mazda CX-3 is again is different than the VW but using a higher capacity 2 litre and having more power. Note that Mazda Power is different and 1Kw = at least 1.5Kw.\u00a0 It may not be reality but it does feel it especially with a manual gearbox.<\/p>\n<p>The conclusion and winner of the Volkswagen T- Cross Vs Mazda CX-3 is the CX-3. For us it was not just the driving but in seat feel felt safer even for the passengers. The CX-3 handling and power characteristics make it a notable improvement over the VW even if you don&#8217;t care of such things.
