Once again do due to the Honda HR-V high cost the Hyundai Kona is very much in the same price and size bracket. So how do the two compare?

Honda HR-V Vs Hyundai Kona exterior comparison: The initial release of the Kona back in 2018 was a good looking high rise version of the donor i30 hatchback. The facelift 2021 version unfortunately did not improve the look but made it look like a traditional South Korean design, hence looks a little awkward. In comparison the HR-V is a very conservative design and looks dated.

Honda HR-V Vs Hyundai Kona interior comparison: The Kona has an interior based on the i30 hatchback so it has all the benefits and problems of the donor car. The most obvious problem is that it looks and feels quite ‘cheap’. For example the carpets look thin we could see though them… In comparison the HR-V looks deliberately minimal yet all the plastics are a grade or two higher.

Honda HR-V Vs Hyundai Kona drive report : N/A

Honda HR-V Vs Hyundai Kona engines and tech comparison: The Kona is a standout as it now offers a fully electric or battery power engine. Unfortunately the electric Kona is priced even higher than the HR-V. The regular petrol engines in the Kona are pretty decent if you avoid the entry level version or the ones equipped with the DCT based Auto. The turbo 4 is quite zippy in and even has a ‘N’ model but it is just a model kit. The Hybrid HRV is a decent choice if it didn’t cost so much.

The conclusion and winner of the Honda HR-V Vs Hyundai Kona is neither. We wouldn’t buy the Kona for a number of reasons but first of all, the HRV is overpriced for what you get even in 2022 – so cross that off the list. The petrol powered Hyundai Kona versions have crept up in price and $4000 from the donor i30 for higher suspension and even less handling costs a little too much. Sure you can buy the base Kona for about $30000 but it still looks and feels too expensive for the price. The only Kona worth looking at is the mid range model grade with a mid-35k price tag there are much better models to choose from, like the CRV, CX-5 and so forth. The electric Kona is in the same price range as a Tesla and equal to Volvo, more than the MINI and let’s not forget the Nissan Leaf – and these are just some comparisons. The Kona does not offer any more than these and certainly less in terms of quality.

Honda HR-V

Hyundai Kona

Engines

4 Cylinder –
