Lexus plugs another gap in their model range with the smallest model in the form of the all new LBX model. Naturally we looked at the closest competitor in terms of price and size and could really only come up with the Mazda CX-3. So how does the CX-3 (in top range) trim compare to the new Lexus LBX?<\/p>\n<p>Lexus LBX Vs Mazda CX-3 exterior: We like the new LBX design with new but familiar design language. However it is a Lexus so does it look upmarket enough compared to the CX-3? Yes the paint job is thicker and more luxurious however not much else to be honest but this is also the cheapest Lexus you can buy. In comparison the CX-3 again to be completely honest looks like an older version of the LBX. Yes in top range trim the CX-3 punches above it&#8217;s price point quite easily but not quite the same level as the LBX but its not far off.<\/p>\n<p>Lexus LBX Vs Mazda CX-3 interior: No question the LBX interior is a Lexus and you haven&#8217;t been short changed. However it does have a more conservative design layout. In comparison the CX-3 interior is nice too but looks older, that said the design language is not comparable as it is a Mazda interior so has it&#8217;s only style. Note that the hard plastics do become noticeable compared to the LBX but the Mazda is $12000 cheaper.<\/p>\n<p>Lexus LBX Vs Mazda CX-3 engine and technology: The LBX uses the same hybrid engine layout as the Yaris Cross so it has OK performance. The rest of the tech package is comprehensive dependent on model grade. In comparison the CX-3 comes with everything in the top ranger except for a hybrid engine. The standard 2 litre engine with a manual transmission is great drive but most will buy the automatic which is nice enough and neither are in the same fuel economy league. The CX-3 may not have the same level of refinement as the LBX but it is cheaper and has character that the Lecxus could never have.<\/p>\n<p>The winner of the Lexus LBX Vs Mazda CX-3 comparison is the CX-3. The Lexus LBX is a great little SUV but it is a Lexus which amplifies the Toyota-ness of the lack of driving involvement as it focuses on being as inoffensive as possible in a premium environment. As for the CX-3 it is unfortunate that despite being a 10 year old design the\u00a0 price has not come down. Sure it&#8217;s price has risen with inflation but it is an older design that shouldn&#8217;t have the new design premium. The CX-3 is a SUV for drivers which attracts and keeps it&#8217;s buyers and along with and exterior and interior that exceeds expectation despite being a familiar design.
