The two models are still direct competitors after 20 years! Both where updated last year and a level playing field in terms of justifying a reason for comparison. So how do the latest generation of these models compare and which one is worth buying over the other?

Honda CR-V Vs Nissan X-Trail exterior comparison: We still think the new CR-V is a completely generic looking SUV. There is nothing ambitious or flair about this design, we guess buyers like that although as potential owners we don’t especially for the price. In comparison the X-Trail has a little more style to it but it is limited due to a boring rear end but interesting front face design. However it still looks just like any other SUV at the time of this post.

Honda CR-V Vs Nissan X-Trail interior comparison: Despite the competition in the class making really high quality interiors the CR-V still makes a high quality and comfortable interior. However there is nothing stand out about it except for the usual flexible seating, it is simply a nice place to be in. Likewise the X-Trail is a nice place as well with typically good design and materials. It looks like any other contemporary interior design made by any number of manufacturers in 2024.

Honda CR-V Vs Nissan X-Trail engine and technology comparison: Both are the same in terms of tech spec and are dependent on model grade. The key difference between the two models are the different hybrid engine options. The CR-V has a standard hybrid system which is highly efficient but we think the X-Trail has the superior setup. The X-Trail has a different method of ‘Hybrid’ engine option. The power train is electric connected via motors and the engine is there solely to charge the small battery. As a result it has a sub 2 litre per 100KM fuel consumption figure. We like this setup but prefer the PHEV option which also has the ability to charge via a wall plug.

The conclusion and winner of the new Honda CR-V Vs Nissan X-Trail comparison is the X-Trail. This was an easy comparison and conclusion as they do the same thing exactly the same way, however the X-trail has the more practical implementation and more fuel efficient setup. The only question that makes the X-Trail a more considered win is: how reliable will this engine and motor layout be? Nissan’s of late haven’t had the best track record long term durability of late, especially in the drivetrain area for quite a while..

Honda CR-V (2025)

Nissan X-Trail

Engines

4 Cylinder –
