The Tiguan has always been on the lower rankings for us due to the turbo tuning trickery, high price and other arguable issues. So have things changed and has VW learnt the error of it’s ways and a legitimate competitor to the newest C-RV?

Honda CR-V Vs Volkswagen Tiguan exterior comparison: The CR-V could have drawn inspiration from Tiguan for the latest exterior design. How and why it occurred is a mystery. You see, the Tiguan is very boring to look at and relies on plasti-chrome parts to make it look flashier but inherently dates the design. Mind you both ultra conservative designs do have their aspirants who want conservative and anonymous SUV to drive around in. That said we all know the boring design serves as a base for other VW brands to enhance but not the CR-V. Unfortunately we don’t think highly of any of the Tiguan’s derivatives that look any more interesting.

Honda CR-V Vs Volkswagen Tiguan interior comparison: All current VW models have taken a hit in terms of lower quality materials used in their interiors. The CRV easily looks and feel more upmarket than the Tiguan interiors unless you pay extra for the Tiguan interior styling packs. While the packs look good they aren’t over $5000 extra to be honest when at this price leather steering wheel and sunroof should be standard features. Overall the Tiguan is nice but it is dated and not quite as nice across the model range as the CR-V.

Honda CR-V Vs Volkswagen Tiguan engine and technology comparison: To be completely honest there is nothing new on offer in the two models. The CR-V has the latest hybrid powertrain on offer which is pretty good but not exactly pushing the boundaries in terms of fuel efficiency or technology. The VW has the standard turbo tuning rip-off in terms of engine and model grade spec. The dark cloud of the Tiguan’s long term reliability and lack of fuel efficiency does not make it particularly desirable in 2024. We tested the R-Line version and unfortunately did not leave with a must buy impression.

The conclusion and winner of the new Honda CR-V Vs Volkswagen Tiguan comparison is the CR-V. The Honda CR-V wins by being a CR-V. It does everything well, is nice to be in, drive enough power, efficiency and importantly reliability. The Tiguan tries to do the same thing but has a dated interior, poor fuel efficiency as highlights although has nice 0-100kph number but inconsistent in gear times due to turbo and DSG in traffic which makes the drive unsatisfactory.

Honda CR-V (2025)

VW Tiguan

Engines

4 Cylinder –
