We like both cars but recently we have found the Dualis more interesting than the Mazda CX-5 for a number of reasons stated in past comparisons and as you will read below.

Dualis Vs CX-5 interior: Because the design style is so different we are split over which one is out winner. The CX-5 is modern and a nice but formal place to be. The Dualis is nice (overall its OK) too but youthful more than the mature presentation of the Mazda. Quality of materials is related to the design style and we think the CX-5 is definitely better. You can also buy the 7 seat Dualis for not much more money.

Dualis Vs CX-5 exterior: The Nissan Dualis has been around for a few years but it still holds well in term of exterior looks and its our pick. The CX-5 looks good too but derivative when you look at the older Hyundai ix35 or BMW X series designs as examples.

Dualis Vs CX-5 engines and technology: The CX-5 may have the latest fuel saving technology but still not a huge difference compared to a Nissan’s conventional petrol engine. The 6 speed auto in the CX-5 will also make it a much more enjoyable drive. Further more the higher price for the CX-5 means it will be some time before any cost benefit is realised. Both in 2.0 litre petrol guise are not very fast cars.

Which one we’d choose is – the Dualis and pocket the difference at the time of writing December 2012. The CX-5 pushes the limits of pricing in the small SUV class especially in base model trim spec especially the engine. We’d rather buy the 5 seater Ti version of the Dualis than the CX-5 any day.

Mazda CX-5

Nissan Dualis

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignleft" style="border-style: initial;
