Neither the Hilux or Actyon Sports are new models although the recent Actyon refresh is much more significant than Toyota’s which a new model is at least 18 months away at the time of this post in June 2013. Note that the Actyon Sports is the tray version based on the regular wagon.

In terms of interior design, presentation and materials the Hilux easily wins and so it should for the price difference. However the Actyon interior is not too cheap or too nasty either when price is taken into consideration. The Actyon’s fit surprisingly – seemed better than the new Holden Rodeo if you must know.

In terms of exterior design the Hilux does show its age but the Actyon is not exactly pretty but some of its lines like the front is pretty good. Sure the Actyon no longer stands out like its controversial predecessors it wasn’t in a good way either. Perhaps SsangYong should consider larger and better designed wheels in the next refresh it might attract a few new purchasers that may consider it visually challenged – for this updatewe don’t anyway if that means anything.

In terms of engine and technology the Actyon has all the mod cons, just checkout the website. The only questions that you would consider are its little known reliability history. The engine is reasonably new and reasonable power etc.. so it is at least worth a look. In contrast the Hilux does have a ton of features too but that is expected for the price difference. The engines are new and known models. The main thing missing is a rear view camera which should be standard in commercial type cars.

It’s not the better SUV in this comparison but lots can be said about Ssangyong as a manufacturer that has been around for quite a number of years with number of links and corporate dramas. We think the SsangYong is on the right track being refreshing open and hopefully honest with its specifications on the website although we hope that the ‘Can’t go wrong with a Ssangyong’ line holds true! That said it doesn’t actually tell you specifically but the load capacity for the Actyon Sports is under 400Kg. Recommended you take a look at this model rather than lessor known brands and those with genuine health warnings. With it’s limitations it’s not bad for the price and can be bought for much cheaper if you try.

Toyota Hilux (2012 upgrade)

SsangYong Actyon

Engines

1GR-FE –
