We like both of these reasonably small SUVs as they are a great compromise between size\/price\/performance\/features\/economy. The Dualis has been around for years while the ASX is just about 3 years on the market. The reasons for this revisit is the introduction of updated diesel to the ASX and a new one to the Dualis.<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of cars and SUVs with diesels in Australia but there are only a few that come as base models with an automatic transmission. So if you&#8217;re looking for the cheapest small SUV with a diesel and and automatic than the Mitsubishi ASX priced from $31,990 is the car to buy! The &#8216;new&#8217; Mitsubishi ASX diesel engine is not the most advanced most advanced on the market but it does pack 2.2 litres or turbo charged and a six speed auto goodness. Strangely the manual only 1.8 diesel will still be sold for the time being.<\/p>\n<p>The Dualis only as a 1.6 litre diesel in manual so that&#8217;s points against it and its not that much cheaper than the ASX. With more equipment on both models they are pretty line ball ignoring the transmission option. Both are a better bet than the equally aging VW TIguan currently experiencing a cloud of reliability issues. (Seriously VW what&#8217;s the use of boasting a warranty if you don&#8217;t honor it?)<\/p>\n<p>The exterior of both cars haven&#8217;t changed much so the Dualis still looks great on the outside. The rear end is still odd but the rest is very good despite its age. Unfortunately time has not made the ASX any better &#8211; unlike its Peugeot and Renault triplets which look much better. Mitsubishi designers really need help.<\/p>\n<p>The interior comparison is now closer thanks to some updates to the Dualis. Overall though both have good and not so good points. These are not luxury cars so you should expect that.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Which is better &#8211; the ASX or the Dualis after the updates? Depends on what you value more. Diesels still are still more expensive than the petrol version and still require many years of ownership before they start offering savings &#8211; However in the case of the Mitsubishi ASX the high performance diesel is probably the better choice in terms of performance\/fuel saving!
