That said the Volkswagen Toureg is a very nice car too although not exactly selling as well as they hoped and we know the reasons hence we gave it a go. The Grand Cherokee is selling very well due very competitive pricing vs features, size and that it actually looks good too helps. In fact there are very few challengers in the Grand Cherokee’s starting price range. The VW Troueg, Audi Q9 and more closely related than the Grand Cherokee which can also be traced back to the Mercedes Benz ML class if you want to think of them in the same light.

Volkswagen Toureg vs Jeep Grand Cherokee exterior: The Volkswagen Toureg is a conservative design that belongs to the early 1990’s and reminds us of the bubble shaped design trend of that era in particular the Mazda 626 which was incidentally a good looking car at the time. Only shiny new paint indicates that the Toureg is still new and of course awkward the straight edges lights of today’s design language. The top end Toureg models with additional body kit ruins what is a nice design. The Grand Cherokee still looks good and has road presence. We all like the Jeep’s exterior design which is modern yet conservative and what you’d expect a Jeep to look like. At some angles it does look awkward in particular the low range models but its an easy win for the Grand Cherokee overall in this comparison.

Volkswagen Toureg vs the Jeep Grand Cherokee interior: The interior of the VW Toureg is very nice place to be. Very good quality interior but at this price could be better. The Grand Cherokee is also a great place to be, it feels homely and substantial. It’s like a stereotypically American lounge/saloon it looks good with touches of understated and overstated luxury. Sure the fit and finish in some places needs more attention but you’d expect that in a Jeep. Furthermore the fit and finish can ‘strangely’ be overlooked thanks to it’s American atmosphere and a strange way to describe but accurate. The cloth seats in the base model don’t look too flashy but are nice to sit in. Likewise the cool LCD and analogue instrument cluster. The Toureg is really nice but just a typically VW interior. We can understand why people choose the Jeep over others in the price range, AKA under $50,000 and models below the VW.

Volkswagen Toureg vs the Jeep Grand Cherokee engines and technology: There is plenty of equipment available in the range for both models but the Jeep can be had with a petrol V8 which has character the VW needs. VW’s diesel engines are probably the best on the world the power in the Jeeps are very impressive compared to the affordable Toureg variants and a petrol V8 cannot be replace. Reliability for both are as good as each other according to the latest American surveys (2013) So we can really only rate them on presentation and to which the Jeep is flashier. Both are equal really,.

Once again we like to point out the almost deceptive marketing of VW’s 8 speed gearbox in conjunction with off road technology. Yes it does have 8 gears but that’s because it doesn’t have a low range gearbox it reduces the value of the brand. At least the Jeep doesn’t need to resort that sort of low level marketing.

Volkswagen Toureg vs the Toyota Landcruiser Prado drive : TBA

The conclusion is simple. We think that the Grand Cherokee wins on value for money and as the better overall package.

//
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
