The two most important competitors in the class both Kluger and Pathfinder are the latest generation medium to large SUV class.

Toyota Kluger vs Nissan Pathfinder exterior: In real life and show room both look quite conservative and arguably boring. the Pathfinder has a slight lead in terms of being just a tad ‘stylish’ with a pointy front end and subtle curves. The Kluger looks more aggressive in the front end and stye that shouts practical. We prefer the exterior design of the new Pathfinder.

Toyota Kluger vs Nissan Pathfinder interior: First, both cars good quality interiors and look and feel good and much better than their predecessors. The interior of the Pathfinder is very nice sure there a few cheaper parts here and there but its the same with the Kluger. The Kluger likewise uses Toyota’s newest design language and different from any others we can think of at the time of writing. The Kluger is clearly designed for practical use since there’s a great tray under the dash and huge centre console box and cup holders that too small or block air vents. The 3rd row seats are reasonably sized for teenagers and adults. You can also assume that the Kluger will be quieter on the road than the Pathfinder.

Toyota Kluger vs Nissan Pathfinder engines and technology: Both have modern V6 petrol engines with plenty of power for virtually any purpose. The Toyota has the preferred 6 speed auto while the Pathfinder has a CVT. The CVT does not make the Pathfinder any more fuel efficient though and you’ll be left with its driving drawbacks. Apart form this difference both are very close. Having driven the prior Kluger – which we liked – we can assume that the carry over engine is still a good thing and along with claimed refinement will be a hard SUV to not pick over the other models.

Fuel saving will be much the same either in the Kluger or Pathfinder in everyday driving so 12-14 litres is probably what you should expect. Handling will be on the safe side as these are family wagons not racing cars.

Toyota Kluger vs Nissan Pathfinder drive : N/A

The conclusion so far is: Which one do you prefer the look of and whether a CVT is the sort of thing you don’t mind putting up with. We like the look of the Pathfinder but the mechanical package of the Kluger. The only real competitor is the Mazda CX-9 but its packaging is so flawed and now uglified that we’re not interested in considering it next to these two.

Toyota Kluger

Nissan Pathfinder

Toyota Kluger interior

Nissan Pathfinder interior

Engines

2GR-FE
V6 Petrol
DOHC VVTi EFI
3.5 Litre (3456cc)
Claimed 201Kw @ 6200RPM
Claimed 337Nm @ 4700RPM

VQ35
V6 Petrol
DOHC EFI
3.5 Litre (3498cc)
Claimed 190Kw @ 5600RPM
Claimed 325Nm @ 4000RPM

Weight

From 1950Kg
Towing capacity up to 2000kg

Kerb weight FROM: 1920Kg
Towing capacity up to 2700kg

Fuel capacity & consumption

72 litres (91 Unleaded)
V6 Petrol 10.6 litres per 100km

73 litres (91 Octane)
VQ35 V6 Petrol 9.9 litres per 100km

Other specifications

6 speed Auto
Overall height/width 1730/1925
Overall length/wheelbase 4865/2790
NCAP safety rating 5/5
Tyre size: 245-55-19

CVT Auto transmission
Overall height/width 1768/1960
Overall length/wheelbase 5008/2900
Tyre size: 235-65-18 235-55-20
NCAP safety rating 5/5

Capability

Angle of: (degrees)
Approach ??
