The Santa Fe has been around for a few years and an increasingly popular choice thanks to its good looks and diesel engine. Both are direct competitors in terms of size and price.

Nissan X-Trail vs Hyundai Santa Fe exterior: The new Nissan X-Trail is a good looking SUV despite reasonably conservative lines. It’s new style makes it more mainstream than the standout boxy shape of the prior generation. The Santa Fe has been around for a few years and still looks good but in an even more conservative fashion. The selling point is that the Nissan’s paint is noticeably better than the Hyundai. Furthermore in based trim the Snats Fe is under-tired and looses the good looks of the high end models. Both are very similar is shape but we definitely prefer the new X-Trail.

Nissan X-Trail vs Hyundai Sana Fe interior: How quickly interiors date and while the Santa Fe interior is nice it is not a special place to be and does feel ‘thin’. The new X-Trail has a better quality interior in terms of feel and practical storage spaces. The Santa Fe is still a solid interior and looks good but only in the upper end of the model range but mostly it does reflect the high price. The Santa Fe is small compared to the latest Pathfinder and Kluger. We like the new X-Trail’s interior.

Nissan X-Trail vs Hyundai Santa Fe engines and technology: Where the Santa Fe out shines the X-Trail is in terms or having a overpowered diesel engine, the only choice really if you’re considering a Santa Fe until Nissan release the hew engine. The Hyundai’s standard 2.4 litre petrol is slug thanks to extra weight which is why the diesel os the only way to go with the Santa Fe. However there is a refinement cost if you choice the diesel. The lighter X-Trail uses carryover engines but updated CVT transmission although missing AWD in diesel auto models except for the manual. Both cars have all the latest tech elsewhere. We wonder why the Santa Fe is so overweight for a car this size?

X-Trail vs Hyundai Santa Fe drive : N/A

The conclusion so far is: The X-trail is modern and evolutionary update to the prior model and it does look good. The Santa Fe likewise looks good and has all the most of the features of the Nissan. However the Santa Fe’s price shocker over rides everything even with the diesel engine the X-Trail is the better package – simple. We again have to point out that the Hyundai is seriously overpriced especially for any model in the range (Except of the top range model) regardless of engine and not value for money, Consider this: the Diesel Santa Fe starts over $43,000 which makes us shake our head in disbelief and so will you.

Nissan X-Trail

Hyundai Santa Fe

Nissan X-Trail interior

Hyundai Santa Fe

Engines

IL 4 Cylinder Petrol (QR25)
DOHC VVT EFI
2.5 Litre (2488cc)
Claimed 126Kw @ 6000RPM
Claimed 226Nm @ 4400RPMIL 4 Cylinder Petrol (MR20)
DOHC VVT EFI
2.0 Litre (1998cc)
Claimed 106Kw @ 6000RPM
Claimed 200Nm @ 4400RPMIL 4 Cylinder Turbo Diesel (M9R)
Direct Injection Common Rail EFI
2.0 Litre (1995cc)
Claimed 127Kw @ 5200RPM
Claimed 360Nm @ 2800RPM (Manual)
Claimed 320Nm @ 2800RPM (Auto)

4 Cylinder (G4KJ)
2.4 Litre (2359cc) petrol
DOHC VVT EFI
Claimed 141kW @ 6300rpm
Claimed 242Nm @ 4250rpm4 Cylinder (D4HB)
2.2 Litre (2199cc) diesel
Turbo intercooled
Common rail direct injection
Claimed 145Kw @ 3800RPM
Claimed 436Nm @ 1800RPM

Weight

FROM 1437 Kg
Towing capacity up to 1500kg

FROM 1834Kg
Towing capacity up to 2500Kg

Fuel capacity &
