Both are less than the year on the market and with the introduction of the PHEV version of the Outlander we decided to revisit both small(er) SUVs.

Ford Kuga Vs Mitsubishi Outlander exterior: We prefer the Ford Kuga exterior design as it is obviously modern and it does look good. The Outlander is not a conservative design because its simply not good to look at. Yes the Outlander does look different from all the other small SUVs but not in a good way furthermore it will not stand the test of time looking dated already. That said the Range Rover which uses the exact same styling clues is not an attractive car either but it does manage to look better. It is no surprise that the Outlander is not a strong seller. The design can be salvaged though…

Ford Kuga Vs Mitsubishi Outlander interior: The interior of the Outlander is good but not great but it is quite spacious. The quality of materials is what you’d expect in a modern car or SUV costing this much. Our biggest problem is that it doesn’t improve on anything and is a rehash of what’s come before. We like what they’ve done with the Kuga but it is smaller. Sure its got lots of buttons which may be confusing to younger folk who are only used to one button on their iphones but the Kuga does look much more impressive. Everything is just about right with the look and feel in the Kuga.

Ford Kuga Vs Mitsubishi Outlander engine and technology: In the mainstream model end of the Kuga and Outlander range both are pretty much as expected with the Kuga offering similar tech (but newer engines) . However at the top end of the model ranges the engine technology Outlander blows the Kuga and any other small/compact SUV out of the water for that matter. (Small capacity turbo charged engines in the Ford are not new tech) Yes the PHEV Outlander version has arrived and its a good thing. (PHEV means Plug in Electric Hybrid) This means that the Outlander has an petrol and electric motor that should be charged to get the fuel savings. It’s a first for the SUV class and one that hopefully will be enough for people to overlook the less than attractive interior and ho-hum interior to buy one.

Ford Kuga Vs Mitsubishi Outlander on road: N/A

In the end the Ford Kuga looks better inside and out. They are both competitively priced for the normal models in the range. The Mitsubishi Outlander is not impressive in the look and feel departments but the PHEV version is a standout if you can afford it and is the bigger small SUV. We could live with the Outlander’s interior but it’s biggest problem is the exterior – how on earth did they expected to sell a car that looks like that?

//
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
