Both cars have been around for a little while and we still regard the CRV as class benchmark since we bought one. Yes there are better SUVs but not overall. The one thing Honda lacks though in the SUV class is what the Outlander PHEV represents! Hence the focus of this comparison is on the PHEV version.

Honda CRV Vs Mitsubishi Outlander exterior: The Outlander is unfortunately the least attractive SUV on sale at the moment. We don’t think many will warm to its unique interpretation of style. As always ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ so whatever floats your boat. Note that it’s the same style as that used by Ranger Rover but not quite as good. In contrast the CRV uses all the latest styling themes that makes it a conservative yet modern to look at, it also happens to win this part of the comparison.

Honda CRV Vs Mitsubishi Outlander interior: The interior of the Outlander is good and quite spacious. The quality of materials is what you’d expect in a modern car or SUV costing this much. Our biggest problem is that it doesn’t improve on anything and is a rehash of what’s come before. The latest CRV is a evolution of the last model and it has a different feel compared to the other smallish SUVs currently on sale. However we think the better screens in the Outlander makes it literally drab interior look nicer where as the CRV looks are cheapen by cheaper plastics and lower resolution screen where there should be better materials. The larger Outlander has more space while the CRV although smaller doesn’t feel it.

Honda CRV Vs Mitsubishi Outlander engine and technology: Both cars are essentially line ball for the entire range even to having good diesel engines however the Mitsubishi takes the lead by offering the PHEV Outlander which is a first for the entire class so wins this part of the comparison. The price of the Outlander PHEV though is higher but so are it’s equipment levels but doesn’t quite match the other hybrids like the Toyota Prius which while more high tech eg. solar panels and HUD interesting does not have a similar SUV. A win to the Outlander in this part!

Honda CRV Vs Mitsubishi Outlander on road: N/A

In the end, most of the Outlander and CRV model ranges are quite competitive but the Honda overall looks better inside and out which seals the deal for us. The Outlander PHEV is currently unique and should be seriously considered if you want the latest fuel saving tech but can you live with a car that looks like that in the driveway?

//
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
