The Hyundai iMax is the passenger version of the pure commercial van called the iLoad. It’s been around for a few years (2008) in the Australia the iMax meets some very specific commercial and private owner requirements. Yes, iMaxes carry people on tours, hire cars, airport transfers and anything that requires acceptable comfort. They don’t have the more upscale image of the Tarago and Odyssey but at least it’s better than the rough Hiace passenger vans.

Hyundai iMax vs Honda Odyssey exterior: The exterior of the iMax is conservative and van like but it’s not ugly just very conservative. It is designed primarily as a commercial van after all.. The exterior does look OK overall and it is big in terms of road presence. The Honda is the smaller car/MPV but only when parked side by side.

Hyundai iMax vs Honda Odyssey interior: There is very little to say about the iMax beyond the obvious. It’s a very ordinary interior which covers all the basics for an MPV, a commercial van with passenger friendly seating. There is plenty of space for everyone in this iMax although not very clever in terms of space enhancing design. The instruments and materials belong to a car over ten years old or a commercial vehicle. For the price it is very under done. The Honda Odyssey is a great example of a modern MPV or van. There is nothing commercial vehicle about it – looks and feels great. Sure the Odyssey may not be as big as the iMax but you’ll be much more comfortable in the same space. For the price the Odyssey beats entry level prestige cars like the Mercedes Benz, A-Class, B-Class, BMW 1 series and Audi A series.

Hyundai iMax vs Honda Odyssey engine and technology: Although there are two engines the only realistic choice is the diesel for the iMax as the petrol version will struggle with all that extra weight. There aren’t many modern safety features included which is part of life when choosing a car of this vintage. The Honda meanwhile has all the latest tech but missing a diesel which may or may not be available one day. A more powerful engine or hybrid is all that is required to make untouchable in this category.

Hyundai iMax vs Honda Odyssey road test: The iMax is a pretty good MPV due to size and acceptable refinement. We’ve travelled in various versions over the years and think a a pretty decent people mover. It’s not a sport car or regular sedan so it does have safe handling characteristics at suburban speeds. The ride was quite good with more than a few on board but is quite firm and for normal driving it’s not exactly quiet either.

If you want lots of space and a diesel engine then the iMax is a good fit. The iMax is essentially a commercial van underneath so points to long term durability. Forget the 4 cylinder petrol iMax since it is a slug – it weighs unloaded way over 2 tons! It does have lots of space for the price but not equipment. The Honda Odyssey is a purpose built MPV and while its no powerhouse on the road it has enough power, the economy and equipment to make transporting the family an enjoyable experience.

//
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
