We like the new Qashqai so we revisited the Hyundai ix35 which competes in the same small SUV class. \u00a0Admittedly the small class is really not that small anymore and these are not the &#8216;smallest&#8217; in the class but we think they are ideal size for most especially those who have 1 or 2 children in primary school. The Qashqai is great value compared to the Hyundai ix35 which is overpriced easily&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Nissan Qashqai vs Hyundai ix35\u00a0exterior: The new Qashqai looks great all over, it has universal appeal with very minor design complaints or character like the prior model. It is a conservative design but the best looking small SUV available. The ix35 was one of the better looking SUV when released but that only applies to the fully loaded top end models and it is unfortunate that the lower end models simply looked cheap thanks to the less high end parts and paint job. Mind you the ix35 still holds upwell compared much newer models like the CX-5 or CRV in terms of exterior design.<\/p>\n<p>Nissan Qashqai vs Hyundai ix35 interior: It&#8217;s no contest that the Qashai wins the interior comparison it feels very good to be in and probably the best of the current smaller SUVs. The Qashqai does&#8217;t have any special design features which is disappointing for a new model. The Hyundai ix35&#8217;s small passenger interior was nice when released but we think it needs an upgrade and a rethink all over, for example cheap looking shiny plastics in the back and lower down and LCD graphics cheaper feeling button etc&#8230; The ix35 does feel solid and looks quite nice considering its age but it is noticeably small and missing something we can&#8217;t really put our collective finger on just yet. (at a stab probably attention to detail) There is nothing clever about the ix35 interior design either.<\/p>\n<p>Nissan Qashqai vs Hyundai ix35 engine and technology: The conventional gearbox in the ix35 is very good and matched with the diesel should be really good. The Qashqai with the CVT probably the biggest albeit not that dramatic shortfall. There&#8217;s a ton of equipment in the ix35 appealing to the easily satisfied, namely the cheap leather and large glass roof on some versions. The same level of easy to please equipment and more useful safety equipment in the Qashqai makes it the winner.<\/p>\n<p>Nissan Qashqai vs Hyundai ix35\u00a0drive: N\/A yet for the Qashqai. I guess 3 days in a Hyundai ix35 rental isn&#8217;t a proper test but its not a CRV or front runner in terms of driving experience it&#8217;s not too noisy but is rides flat and relatively harsh to a point then it becomes wobbly and uncooperative with minimal steering feel in terms of steering is the best we can describe it.<\/p>\n<p>To conclude the Qashqai is more impressive in the showroom and specification it is justifiably and currently our choice in the small SUV class. The Hyundai is very good against the older models and competition but now the ix35 is overpriced and uncompetitive in 2014 with it&#8217;s look and feel compared to the Qashqai.
