Since VW has just release the updated Tiguan we decided to have a look at it again! The Tiguan has never been close to a favorite SUV due to a variety of factors including the high cost to buy, insure and expensive servicing costs especially past 100,000km, unknown reliability,\u00a0relatively small size, plain to look at and sit in. Some including the popular press for no other reason than paid bias seem to think that it&#8217;s a luxury brand comparing it to clones under the skin Audi models. Of course being more realistic the Tiguan has much more in common with the &#8216;cheaper&#8217; clone brand plate of Skoda. Do not be fooled the parts are made in the same factories. The Qashqai on the other hand is completely different and if Nissan can design this SUV we can only be impressed by Renault&#8217;s interpretation of this design.<\/p>\n<p>Nissan Qashqai vs Volkswagen Tiguan\u00a0exterior: The Tiguan has the most conservative styling in the class which is consistent with the entire VW range. It looks a little cheap too in any model bar the range topper. It represents the &#8216;people&#8217;s car&#8217; culture wanting ordinary non-aligned cars in it&#8217;s home country of German which it happens to be cheaper there too. The Qashqai manages to straddle the conservative and modern edgy yet organic design themes so looks great which it half the reason why it sells so well. The build quality on the Qashqai is also a a tad higher than the VW. Easy win to the Nissan.<\/p>\n<p>Nissan Qashqai vs Volkswagen Tiguan\u00a0interior: The Tiguan&#8217;s interior quality was one of the best overall materials but let down in design. It just does not look particularly high end as the price or compared to other VW models already demonstrate. VW can do very nice interiors but the Tiguan is just OK at best also just be wary of the well known bling treatment of adding metal parts like a higher quality steering wheel or gear knob which distract you from the overall quite normal design. Unfortunately the usual VW tricks do not work in the Tiguan and it is simply not as good as the Qashqai. The Nissan has a good interior that ticks all the usability and quality boxes in the small SUV class and despite being smaller looks and feels as spacious.<\/p>\n<p>Nissan Qashqai vs Volkswagen Tiguan engine and technology: We&#8217;ll start off with the Qashqai which can be simply described as having the latest of everything except for engine tech. The Tiguan has the latest engine trend of turbo and\/or supercharging shared by Audi and Skoda which by all accounts is very good. All the engines are pretty good things however while common with all associated brands the parts are not cheap since there are no 3rd part manufacturers. It is missing out in every other aspect which is very disappointing considering the price. A simple example is how heavy the Tiguan is \u00a0at over 100Kg heavier which means some poor engineering work and feel cramped in the inside and the &#8216;turn up the turbo trick&#8217; and ask for even more money can only be described at worst as a rip off and at best also a rip off.<\/p>\n<p>Nissan Qashqai vs Volkswagen Tiguan\u00a0drive: N\/A<\/p>\n<p>To conclude the Qashqai is more impressive than the Tiguan which is logical considering the VW is a very old model. The latest news reports in Australia have them claiming now after their complete denial of anything wrong with their car&#8217;s &#8211; they claims that recalls of cars are now a good thing &#8211; which is laughable and truly treating existing and potential customers as completely stupid. (We cannot comment about Toyota&#8217;s denial efforts overseas cause we don&#8217;t live there) Maybe VW have learnt their lesson or rather customers here are forgiving but don&#8217;t forget.\u00a0 Ignoring this issue some of their models like the Golf are genuinely very good cars and amongst the best but we&#8217;re not interested in them on this website. Their SUVs the Tiguan, Toureg, Amarok miss the mark even before you do the test drive and when you do in the case of our Amarok and Toureg drive can be essentially described as not compelling. Furthermore the Tiguan especially is overpriced compared to the Qashqai. VW must try much harder.
