The X-trail is a decent small SUV the the deigned for people who need more space than the smaller Qashqai. It has all the same attributes except for the more conservative styling. The Outlander is a typical new Mitsubishi that has lost its styling inspiration both inside and out but the technology in the PHEV version is a standout in the class by being the first SUV that can be driven by batteries alone.

Nissan X-Trail vs Mitsubishi Outlander exterior: No competition here the X-Trail from almost any angle looks and feels better. The Outlander is not attractive, conservative or challenges with daring design, it is just wagon body with some curves. It’s a design that shows off budget cuts and targeted market positioning, unfortunately this design focus is no longer works as the once downmarket manufacturers like Hyundai have overtaken the mainstream Japanese brands like Mitsubishi.

Nissan X-Trail vs Mitsubiahi Outlander interior: The X-Trail’s interior is a nice place to be although it is ultimately conservative but you can’t really fault it otherwise. The Outlander interior feels like its from the 80’s or 90’s although the materials are quite nice it’s seems like (as we’ve said before) the budget for design was cut from the start or all the good designers in the company have left and only the boring one just cut and pasted from various older models. Eg steering wheel from a ancient commercial grade Triton?

Nissan X-Trail vs Mitsubishi Outlander engines and technology: This is an easy win to the Outlander it has that PHEV engine option. However everything is pretty much even including optional diesel engines for the rest of the range.

Nissan X-Trail vs Mitsubishi Outlander drive: N/A

The conclusion to this comparison is reasonably easy. If you want a decent SUV with regular tech but looks also good then go for the X-Trail regardless of model grade. However if you want the best tech package for fuel efficiency then only the Outlander PHEV is the best choice. Only those who can live with the Outlander’s look should buy one though. That said an updated Outlander is due this year (2015) and by all accounts looks much better.

//
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
