Welcome to the Toyota Landcruiser 70 series Ute vs Nissan Patrol Ute GU series comparison.\u00a0 With the release of the latest generation of light commercial vehicles aka utes like the Hilux, Triton Navara and so forth we thought it was time to look at the oldest models still for sale in 2016. The Series 70 Landcruiser aka cab-chassis and to a lessor extent the Patrol ute otherwise also known as Patrol Cab Chassis have\u00a0been around for decades (30 years for the 70 series and over 250,000 units) with minimal changes as it meets the needs for its target market, mainly farming, rural, outback and mining industries. However they are still available to the general public but relatively expensive if you really want one.<\/p>\n

Toyota Landcruiser 70 series Ute Vs Nissan Patrol Ute exterior: Both are clearly based on the donor station wagon SUV that they are based. The Series 70 despite its age actually looks good, probably because it looks like a small truck and remains the benchmark model. The 70 series is also available as a 4 door site body. The Patrol version looks good too and appears more modern although it has been around for over a 10 years.<\/p>\n

Toyota Landcruiser 70 series Ute Vs Nissan Patrol Ute interior: First of the Patrol has the more modern interior design but it is the same as the GU Patrol wagon (Y61) which is a late 90’s design. The LandCruiser 70 series interior was designed in the early 80’s and revamped in the 2000’s but it’s old or retro dependent on your point of view. We prefer the Patrol as it looks nicer although it is skin deep.<\/p>\n

Toyota Landcruiser 70 series Ute Vs Nissan Patrol Ute technology: Both are essentially small work trucks and that is what you should expect. The Patrol boasts the option of coil rear suspension or leaf springs and a basic 4WD system. The Landcruiser 70 doesn’t have as many modern tech features as standard as the Nissan BUT the 2015 update sees extra airbags and improved emissions. The LandCruiser does have the a V8 turbo diesel which although a little old is better than the ancient 4 cylinder turbo diesel in the patrol. However both have plenty of aftermarket options for upgrades.<\/p>\n

In the end deciding which one to buy as a private buyer depends on which one you like the look of better and which engine or better safety package you prefer. We prefer the Landcruiser 70 series Landcruiser more than the Patrol based on the two factors above. That said if you where a commercial buyer or a farmer the choice could be more interesting?<\/p>\n
