We already like the new Triton and already checked out the Hilux and the US 4Runner vs the Fortuner (Comparison coming soon.) Yes busy globe trotting at least one of us anyway…another story and BLOG. Anyway the Triton is arguably the best pack commercial utility and literally family SUV. The Triton rates highly with us because the price for feature ratio is what this market needs at the moment. The new Hilux is pretty go too at least on paper.

2016 Toyota Hilux vs Mitubishi Triton exterior comparison: Each to their own as to which one you like better. The new Hilux is different from the last model in that you would at first glance recognise it as the new Hilux we also like the squarer wheel arches on the Hilux. Although the Triton was the style leader in the Ute class (and still looks modern on the road with the last generation) but not anymore it is more an evolution and we think its nice.

2016 Toyota Hilux vs Mitsubishi Triton interior comparison: The new Hilux has a unique interior style among the latest generation of ute based SUVs. The interior design could be mistaken for a Corolla which is the point I guess. Overall looks OK although the materials are still more commercial grade (especially on base models) than car for the same sort of cash. The option trim pack on the top range SR5 for leather and electric seats in an interesting and expensive option. The Triton interior is an upgrade on the prior model but clearly more commercial than consumer. That said it is easy to use and feels OK, what you’d expect in a modern ute based SUV and good for what it is. Furthermore the interior is customisable if you wish and plenty of space for after market comms.

2016 Toyota Hilux vs Mitsubishi Triton engines and technology comparison: The single diesel engine across the Triton range wins lots of points and the Superselect 4WD system which on some models allows AWD on regular road wins even more. It is very simple engine range and is state of the art powerful and refined. In contrast the Hilux has new but multiple engines to cater for all sorts of buyers which is confusing and bordering on VW style price gouging. The 4WD system on some Hilux models is also very good but you can’t use it on normal roads which loses points.

The conclusion is the Triton is the better package due to price and features list. It becomes even more obvious the Triton wins with the same powerful engine across the range and we think no amount of marketing from Toyota is going to out do the Triton especially in the lower end of the model range. The Hilux is expensive compared to the Triton for what is really the same sort of package.

Note that the specifications are for the most popular variant the 4×4 Dual-cab.

//
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
