With the refresh of the Ford Ranger and the new Triton released we decided to do a quick spec and showroom comparison. We do like both models for different reasons.

Mitsubishi Triton Vs Ford Ranger exterior: The Ranger is the bigger SUV no question. It sits noticeably wider and seemingly taller thanks to what we call bloated design. Regardless of the design style it does look good and clearly inspired by Ford US truck design. Mitsubishi is one manufacturer not afraid to make bold design choices. Some times they work and sometime they don’t. 2002 Pajero and 2012 Outlander are clear reminders. The Triton is the smaller SUV but not by much and it looks more generic. The look seems to grow on us over a small space of time. However prefer the Ranger’s exterior sheetmetal this time.

Mitsubishi Triton Vs Ford Ranger interior: The interior of the Triton looks good in a normal 2000-ish style. The materials are better than the last model and there are plenty of entertainment features dependent on model but mostly in the family orientated specification does not really feel too commercial. Most will probably go for the top end model because it is affordable compared to other brands. The latest update to the Ford Ranger makes it arguably the best interior in the class. Its all classs from the high tech dash to the floor. The new design sets it apart from its former twin the Mazda BT-50 and scores better design and materials. Easy win to the Ranger in this area.

Mitsubishi Triton Vs Ford Ranger technology: Interestingly the Triton has the more advanced transmission, being either RWD or selectable AWD on normal roads. In all other respects both are pretty much equal in terms of tech features including stereo system. However the Triton adds HID lights and LEDs that are missing from the Ranger. In terms of engines the Triton has a decent turbo diesel considering it’s small 2.4 litre displacement but the Ford out powers the Triton easily due not only more power but a 6 gear auto vs 5 speed. That said the Triton isn’t exactly slow merely having 10% less torque an 14Kw less and over 100kg lighter. Both have their reliability issues known so the winner is definitely the Triton due to being able to select AWD on the freeway.

Mitsubishi Triton Vs Ford Ranger drive: Summary, the Triton is a decent drive, firms suspension and reasonably direct steering. It’s quite smooth, not too noisy and surprisingly comfortable. Press the AWD button for a notably reassuring and solid ride and feels a touch sporty sort of…

The winner Mitsubishi Triton Vs Ford Ranger comparison is the Triton. The Triton easily wins by being $10,000 cheaper than the Ranger for the most desirable models without the 4WD where as the Triton has it as standard and approx $16,000 cheaper for the top range models. That’s a huge price difference in comparison to the top range Triton Exceed to the top end Ranger Wildtrack. You can’t even get a 4WD system in the mid range Ranger for the price of the Ranger topper Triton Exceed. Easy win for the Triton.

// google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
