We applaud Ford for the all new Everest that is until they announced the pricing. The Ford Everest is a wagon version of the Ford Ranger ute simply explained. Mind you Ford claim underbody improvements like suspension refinement over the commercial Ranger. Should it be compared against the Toyota Prado, Land Rover Discovery or any other established higher priced 4WD brand &#8211; maybe? Ford&#8217;s aim is admirable but there&#8217;s more to the Prado for example than just a name, it&#8217;s the unseen engineering that backs up that model which Ford doesn&#8217;t have. Should it be compared to the Fortuner? YES both are the same in concept. Ford just took the easy path and went the marketing route which seems to have &#8216;fooled&#8217; many! The all new Fortuner marks the reentry of Toyota into the ute based wagon and it definitely looks great.<\/p>\n<p>Toyota Fortuner Vs Ford Everest exterior: The Fortuner looks good despite the overt modern styling. It does look like a Lexus rather than a mass market Toyota model. The tapered rear windows and high brow wheel arches give it some retro and style. The Ford Everest looks like a model from the 1990&#8217;s especially the old Mitsubishi Challenger and Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Everest front end is shared with the Ranger doesn&#8217;t help marketing but at least it&#8217;s not ugly like the Colorado 7 for example. The rear end of the Everest looks too much like the Renault Koelos so that is not a good thing. It is bulkier than the Fortuner but not reflected in terms of space. Overall the Ford Everest looks just like any older SUV and not as nice as the Fortuner.<\/p>\n<p>Toyota Fortuner Vs Ford Everest interior: The Ford interior is exactly the same as the Ranger. Materials are the same as the Ranger which makes it decent overall but not premium for the price, certainly not for the $76,000 top range asking price! The lighter colour interior parts help lift the interior but being a family SUV not a good choice of obvious reasons. Interior parts that don&#8217;t quite fit despite being less in number are also obvious and annoying. \u00a0The interior is not noticeably larger than the Fortuner either. Furthermore clever but short cuts like noise cancelling hide the simple fact that it is missing the basic engineering refinement in the Toyota. The Ford Everest also claims to be a 7 seater which is sort of true as it does have 7 seats but the you&#8217;re not going to be able to use them for real people with legs so more PR.<\/p>\n<p>The Fortuner interior has a similar theme to the Hilux but thanks to a dashboard and console redesign isn&#8217;t obvious. When compared the Fortuner is definitely in the same class as the Everest in terms of material and fit and finish but it&#8217;s design is much more modern. Sure the dash top is hard plastic but it looked good which is the main thing. We like the multi screens in the Everest but the Fortuner is just as good with smaller screens and nicer colours. The dark brown shades of the Fortuner also \u00a0looks better and gives peace of mind. Overall both are equal in this department, the boring and high maintenance Everest and modern Fortuner both have good and no so good points but short cuts in the Everest mark it down.<\/p>\n<p>Toyota Fortuner Vs Ford Everest engines and technology: Both have modern diesel engines, safety and in-car entertainment systems among their various spec to match each other. \u00a0The 4wd system are also a match but the Fortuner will have the advantage purely due to Toyota&#8217;s long brand history, known tech and Hilux underpinnings. The Everest shares tech with the Ranger so should be decent enough off road. \u00a0Just remember, although it shares parts with the Ranger commercial ute doesn&#8217;t mean much without any history to back it up &#8211; for the time being. The Everest weighs 200kg more than the Fortuner so blunts any performance advantage. Both are essentially equal on paper in this area.<\/p>\n<p>Toyota Fortuner Vs Ford Everest road test: Coming soon.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of spec and showroom comparisons the Ford Everest is a good SUV no question but being made in Thailand as part of a free trade arrangement and at those prices it is a rip off to put it simply. Which brings up the pricing of the Fortuner which is more reasonable since it is visually different from the Hilux and also made in Thailand.
