We checked out the all new Jeep Renegade and decided that the fairest comparison would be to the Nissan Qashqai due to similarity in size/price and happens to be our current favourite (at this point in time) in the smallish SUV class. The Jeep Renegade is the twin of the Fiat 500x but thanks to l lots of deign choices you wouldn’t know it which is the way shared platforms should be.

Jeep Renegade CX-3 Vs Nissan Qashqai exterior: Contrasting exterior design makes life interesting and the Jeep Renegade is good looking car with retro inspired design very different from most of the existing small SUV models. We like the design overall as it is a contrast to current crop of ‘sporty’ looking SUVs. Of course the Renegade is essentially a box like design with ‘inspired’ angles but it does work. The rear end design is a little awkward but you could live with it. The Qashqai is arguably the best looking small SUV in the class who could argue with that conclusion, all the lines are in the right places!

Jeep Renegade Vs Nissan Qashqai interior: The quality of the Renegade interior is very good for this class there is minimal low grade plastics and feels solid. The design reflects the exterior which is a different from the conservative ones from mainly Japanese models. Interestingly the much more expensive Ford Everest interior feels a less solid compared to the top range Renegade. The Qashqai is just as good overall and does look more upmarket although some plastics feel cheaper. Interior size of both SUVs are quite different so are pretty much equal but the flatter front windshield and rear hatch on the Renegade makes it more user friendly and darker place to be. The Jeep Renegade feels like the better quality place to be which is a surprise for a Jeep if you like it’s design.

Jeep Renegade Vs Nissan Qashqai engine and technology: Both cars have the latest tech in terms os safety and entertainment systems the differences are in the engines and drive train. The Qashqai has a carry over engine and CVT transmission while the Renegade has a number of engines and a regular auto gearbox and a 4WD system optional of course. However the base engine is a tiny 1.6 litre will be a complete slug and the requirement for 98 Octane only will make it an expensive slug too since you’ll be revving the guts out of it to keep up with traffic. However the more comprehensive options on the Jeep make it a winner in this area but at a price.

Jeep Renegade Vs Nissan Qashqai drive: Coming soon.

The conclusion based on spec and appeal make it an ease win for the Jeep Renegade however it comes a a very high price. The Jeep has a great style to it but it’s not premium to look at but at least it’s not too bad on the inside. The Renegade pricing starts at (revised downwards for 2016) $29,000 for the manual or $32,000 for the Auto with a 1.6 litre engine! Then there’s the questionable reliability for Jeep to overcomes even more so for a new model. It’s virtually in rip off pricing territory no question. The Qashqai is best buy so go for that and be happy.

Jeep Renegade

Nissan Qashqai

Engines

IL4 Cylinder Petrol
DOHC EFI
1.6 Litre (1598cc)
Claimed 81Kw @ 5500RPM
Claimed 152Nm @ 4500RPM

4 Cylinder Petrol MR20
2 Litre (1997cc) 91 Octane
DOHC EFI
Claimed 106Kw @ 6000RPM
Claimed 200Nm @ 4400RPM

IL4 cylinder Petrol
1.4 Litre (1368cc)
Turbo-charged
Claimed 103kW @ 5000RPM
Claimed 230Nm @ 1750RPM

4 Cylinder Diesel R9M
1.6 Litre (1598cc)
DI Turbo diesel
Claimed 96Kw @ 4000RPM
Claimed 320Nm @ 1750RPM

IL4 cylinder Petrol
2.4 Litre (2360cc)
DOHC EFI
Claimed 129kW @ 6400RPM
Claimed 230Nm @ 4400RPM

Weight

Kerb weight FROM 1295Kg
Towing capacity up to 800Kg

Kerb weight FROM 1371Kg
Towing capacity up to 1400kg

Fuel capacity &
