New for 2016 the Hyundai Tucson looks great on the outside and looks like a direct competitor to our favourite small SUV the Nissan Qashqai.

Nissan Qashqai vs Hyundai Tucson exterior: The 2016 Tuscon looks are as far away from traditional Korean designs in the recent past. The prior designs where clearly unique but mostly not in a good way. Since the employment of a German designer from Audi we can see the more European design themes. The end result is that the Tuscon looks good in although a little derivative. In comparison the Qashqai still look good all the angles work and most of all it doesn’t look like an older model.

Nissan Qashqai vs Hyundai Tucson interior: The Qashqai despite being a couple years older is still overall better than the Tucson. The overall quality look and felt nicer to be in than the Tucson. The 2016 Tucson is an upgrade to the old model and uses a similar but updated design if you get the drift. That said neither are ‘luxury’ interior unless you are upgrading from a 1980’s car. Measurements say that the Tucson is a little bigger than the Qashqai but it doesn’t feel any bigger.

Nissan Qashqai vs Hyundai Tucson engines and technology: Both do not stretch in terms of engine technology. Engine power is also average whether it’s petrol or diesel and is the only place the Tucson has an advantage, see the specification below. Needless to say both have all the required trinkets like at least 7 airbags but all the best is received for the top line models. The Qashqai does have the edge in safety with option of multiple cameras and a self parking system.

Nissan Qashqai vs Hyundai Tucson drive : The Nissan Qashqai is a good drive despite the CVT. Yes there is typical CVT engine sound not matching speed but we could live with it. The best part of the CVT was the smoothness and great start stop traffic manners. The steering feel was good the handling felt completely safe a little sharp which was unusual for a Nissan also the interior noise levels was pretty good too at better than Corolla levels despite the low profile tyres. Since the car was new the engine was still tight and was on the slower side but that could just be the CVT effect! Haven’t driven the Tuscon yet.

The conclusion so far is: The Hyundai Tucson looks good inside and out. However the Nissan looks equally good outside and better inside. The key difference is the CVT gearbox vs a normal albeit DSG which has it’s own annoying characteristics. So it really comes down of price and looks. The pricing for the Qashqai is sharp the Tucson is not – it is on the expensive side for less options so in the end the Qashqai feels better to be in and just as good everywhere else. We where hoping that the Tucson was going to be noticeably better being a new model but it’s not.

//
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
