With the release of the new CX-9 we decided to compare it with the Holden Captiva, since it has been quite a while since we’ve reviewed it with any Holden. Essentially the Captiva has issues so its best you do you’re own research on problems with it’s quality and reliability. Over the years the Captiva came in two sizes but has now been reduced to just the one, the larger 7 seat version and simply called the Capitva.

Mazda CX-9 Vs Holden Captiva exterior comparison: The Holden Capitva is a nice looking SUV overall, having mostly conservative lines considering its age but what spoils the look is the added chrome trim typical of cars made for Asian market and on it’s last refresh before replacement. Make no mistake chrome trim highlights placed correctly adds to a cars appearance but used as per the Captiva cheapens the appearance. The quality of the paint used is also ‘thin’ except for white. The Mazda CX-9 is a great to look at even if the design doesn’t appeal to you the quality should, easily the better looking SUV.

Mazda CX-9 Vs Holden Capitva interior comparison: The interior o the Captiva is good but it’s not high end but heading towards the low end. It’s has a very early 2000’s style to it and also quality. They have tried to update it over the years but it is not a complete success, essentially is a old school interior design cheap-ish but not that bad by 2016 standards. Although it feels a size smaller despite the extra row of seats but then it is a cheap SUV for the size. The CX-9 is clearly the latest and most refined interior we’ve seen to date on a non-prestige SUV feels and looks good, sells itself really.

Mazda CX-9 Vs Holden Captiva engines and technology comparison: The best thing about the Holden Captiva is the up to date stereo system. The Mazda CX-9 does not have the latest connectivity option like Apple or Android Auto and we think this is a technology feature is becoming more important as we approach 2017 hence is it’s weakest point, that said bluetooth connectivity works perfectly. The diesel engine option is the only decent engine in the Captiva range as the V6 is essentially broken by a torque figure that belongs to a 2.4 litre 4 cylinder engine! Hence the single engine option in the CX-7 is preferable to any in the Captiva range. Holden needs to provide suitable specifications on all Captiva models since as is today it is essentially a fail. There is so much more real safety features in the CX-9 than the Captiva.

Mazda CX-9 Vs Holden Captiva drive comparison: N/A

The Mazda CX-9 presents really well in the specification comparison and in the showroom to the Holden Captiva. The Holden Captiva is clearly the older model but has the redeeming feature of being cheap to buy and there are plenty of deals official and unofficial around and other issues too.

<td style="text-align: left;
