We’re doing a series comparing the Suzuki Ignis to regular small cars since this is the next battle ground for your hard earned cash. You see big traditional SUV and 4WD are no longer the favoured mode of transport for the masses. The market for SUVs like the Toyota Prado and Kluger are not what they used to be as small SUVs and cars is the next consumer trend. One of the best small cars is the Mazda2 and also one of the most popular small cars currently available while the Ignis is just released and presumably ahead for the buying trend.

Suzuki Ignis vs Mazda2 exterior comparison: 2 completely different design philosophies, the Igins is a modern retro interpretation from the 1970’s Suzuki while the Mazda2 is a current but guppy like small hatchback. The paint quality on both look just as hard wearing so you would think that they where similarly priced, except for size. The Mazda2 is also physically bigger than the Ignis which great for perceived safety but it doesn’t seem to work as well as the Ignis seems more spacious.

Suzuki Ignis Vs Mazda2 interior comparison: The Suzuki Ignis is built to a price equation, with the model range starting at under $15,000 to under $20,000 you expect an all plastic hard wearing commercial car like interior and that is what you get. Thankfully Suzuki haste given the interior standard two tone interior and higher quality hard plastics which look decent. Going off topic, the Iginis is more modern and higher quality than the Holden Trax as an example which really says something about how overpriced the Trax is. The Mazda2 interior is the one on the market in 2017, even in base model trim. Find or option the Mazda2 with the colour pack and you’ll be very happy for the life of the Mazda. Sure the dash top is hard plastic but you can’t tell which is the way it should be. The top range Mazda2 is priced just under $30,000 and it feels and looks just as good as car above $30,000 – easily. The most notable problem with the Mazda2 is despite being bigger on the outside the interior, especially the back seats are not as good as the adjustable ones in the Ignis.

Suzuki Ignis Vs Mazda2 engines and technology comparison: The Ignis has a modern engine although conventional in design with a CVT and class average safety equipment. The only Ignis feature worth mentioning is the fully connected stereo system. The Mazda2 has latest fuel saving tech and all the latest safety systems including auto brakes but all of it comes at a cost. The Mazda2 currently does not have compatibility with Apple or Android phones except through Bluetooth which is disappointing since the much cheaper Ignis has it and most of all any customer buying a new Mazda will expect it. The only flaw with the Ignis is the small engine on paper, it needs a headlining turbo or a 1.5 litre engine to make it truly stand out in the Australian market.

The winner of the Mazda2 Vs Suzuki Ignis comparison is based on what you value most. We prefer value for money package rather than a car that has only one or two great features. The Mazda2 is a good small car and package with compete with other small cars but the smaller Ignis feels more spacious especially on the rear despite being smaller. The Ignis asking price means it’s great value the Mazda is expensive and only the base models go head to head and if that was the case the top range Ignis is better than the base Mazda2. Mid range Mazda2 is where the best package and value is but it’s over $6000 more, Over time the Ignis will be a $10000 second hand purchase after 5 years and the Mazda2 the same $10000 after 5 years. Financially speaking the Ignis is the better buy, but the joy of ownership lies perhaps with the Mazda2.

// google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
