The Tiguan released last year is a much improved model over the superseded one and always worth a look at when buying a new car or SUV. All the cheating scandals should be left behind by now although you still need to question what other quality and reliability issues VW have deliberately designed into their cars just because they could get away with it – just like any manufacturer. At least they have introduced fixed price servicing which the first 3 years – only required once a year if you don’t travel much. The new Mazda CX-5 is literally one of the best SUVs we’ve tried to date and the only manufacturer that does not use turbo charging in their main stream petrol models to meet fuel efficiency and emissions, since they are heavily scrutinised these days we can safely say the Mazda are the most technological advanced of all the manufacturers.

Mazda CX-5 Vs VW Tiguan exterior design comparison: No question the Tiguan is a conservative looking design like a template for the other even more expensive brands owned by VW to use. The Tiguan’s fussy front and rear end are contrasts to the un-adventerous lines they used on the sides and roof. If that appeals then this is the car for. The new Mazda CX-5 uses the latest brand design language and all the better really. The CX-5 looks more striking and upmarket than the VW while to being not being outrageous to look at.

Mazda CX-5 Vs VW Tiguan interior comparison: The Tiguan uses the regular VW template for interior designs with a soft touch dash top and harder materials below the eye line. However it does look boring aka old but decent and works. All Tiguan models look decent even the base model trim with the telling cloth seats but they are comfortable. The interior is a direct reflection of it’s exterior design. The CX-5 interior is a nice place to be in as well, even the base model looks good although the seat material in the base model CX-5 is clear contrast to the higher quality parts elsewhere as it is less obvious in the Tiguan. aka berthing bar the seat material is base level. Top of the range CX-5 gets a very upmarket interior along with a decent stereo system likewise the Tiguan but dependent on options and even to the top range model the ties seat are still optional. The Tiguan stereo system when optioned appropriately is a very nice sounding and clearer. Which stereo system sounds better is dependent on your preferences.

Mazda CX-5 Vs VW Tiguan engine and technology: The VW Tiguan has all the latest safety tech equipment and engine choices however they are based on the same engine with the usual turbo tweaking to increase power. This turbo tweaking is still a rip off technique to differentiate the models since it is the same engine. We recommend you avoid the Tiguan purely based on their attitude to any potential buyer. The Mazda CX-5 has the most advanced engine in the small to medium SUV class since the petrol engines do not require turbo charging to achieve emissions or power. The only short fall in the CX-5 is the lack of Android and Apple phone integration because bluetooth connectivity can only do so much.

Mazda CX-5 Vs VW Tiguan on road: The Tiguan is a good drive, it’s heavier steering is the main reason with more direct although no real steering feel. It’s not smooth on the road but works well. This seems to be a common thing with all the VW’s we’ve driven and we don’t equate relatively unsettled suspension ride with better handling which seems to the aim. There is some turbo lag when the transmission and throttle are caught off guard or when the transmission is in normal mode that few ‘professional’ reviewers mention or acknowledge as with all turbo engines but overall it’s OK to drive. The overall solid ambience is the factor which leads you to believe it’s better than it really is.

The winner of the Mazda CX-5 Vs VW Tiguan comparison is another draw! Both are desirable in their own way as SUVs. To us and the majority of buyers was want a car that actually looks like a new model. The top range CX-5 actually looks and feels like luxury car for less than the Tiguan even with some options ticked. The more powerful engine options in the Tiguan may be a selling point but that’s completely countered by being ripped off for any other petrol or diesel engine option. That is why we can never give win to the VW Tiguan.

// google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
