The new Honda CR-V is arguably the benchmark in the class although it’s not exactly all out comparison winner in terms of design or technology. Rather it is the CR-V’s overall package that makes it a easy car or SUV to live with, much like what Toyota positions with the RAV4. We guess that Renault is also aiming for the same result with the Koleos, which in isolation is a great package.

Honda CR-V Vs Renault Koleos exterior exterior: We like the CR-Vs new exterior lines as it is more stylish and has a definite ‘character’ rather than being nice and squarely conservative. The Koleos is a great example of badge engineering as it is based on the Nissan X-Trail but you would never guess it unless parked side by side. The Koloes is it’s own design and it too looks good and certainly bigger in size than it really is. However it has a little too much chrome to be visually appealing to younger buyers and the looks a little dated to those who prefer a genuine modern looking car and a result we prefer the Honda.

Honda CR-V Vs Renault Koleos interior: The CR-V interior is nice place to be in, there is plenty of space, different seat configurations and space to store everyday items. It looks and feels good especially the dash layout which includes a digital instrument panel and large infotainment screen. It’s only flaw we think is the quality material on the leather seats if optioned although the rest of the range has decent materials. The Koleos interior while different to the Honda design is a very nice place to be in as well it genuinely looks and feels good, not luxury level but equal to the CR-V. Additional bling type feature include adjustable ambient lighting which is a standout out in the class. The main flaw with the Koleos interior is a single design feature, the large border around the centre console screen which looks cheap, we simply couldn’t ignore it. Renault needs to fix this and the Koleos would be the winner of this part of the comparison.

Honda CR-V Vs Renault Koleos engine and technology: The CR-V has the latest small turbo engine that produces a good amount of power but mated with a CVT auto. The flaw with the CR-V for this year is the lack of more advanced safety systems which are only available in to the top range model. The Koleos has a old school larger non-turbo engine but has a diesel as an option from 2017 but it is also equipped with a power sapping CVT transmissions. Basic safety systems are slightly better than the CR-V and they have the option of more advanced systems like auto brakes. The stereo system in the Koleos has a Arkamys tuned system in all models and a BOSE in the top range both sound great for OEM setups and better than what the CR-V has to offer. Both have digital radio and Apple and Samsung or Android compatible systems. As a result the Koleos is a winner in this part of the comparison.

Honda CR-V Vs Renault Koleos drive report : N/A

The conclusion and winner of the Honda CR-V Vs Renault Koleos is neither. It’s all about two things, the engine in the Koleos, it’s not powerful enough, fuel efficient except when equipped with a diesel engine and of course the question of reliability and running costs purely due to being a Renault. The Honda CR-V is a definite step up from the last model but it fails to easily impress against the latest models from other manufacturers thanks to the lack of desirable safety features even as options in most of the model range and a sound system that doesn’t sound as good as the Koleos. You may say these things are minor but that is a point, they are so close that minor things can tip the conclusion if you’re not brand biased.

// google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
