Sure they are very different in price range, size and design but many want to know whether the prestige but not exactly luxurious Evoque is worth double that price of the mainstream CR-V.Note that the reference for this comparison is the top range CR-V spec vs the entry level Evoque as they are the closest in price.

Honda CR-V Vs the Range Rover Evoque exterior design comparison: The Evoque looked great when first released something different and definitely premium in design. The latest CR-V has gone upmarket, less conservative in design and it looks very good compared to all the exisiting SUVs including the equally new CX-5. The Evoque may be an older design and the 4 door version may be more practical but still good looking but the 4 door Evoque doesn’t float our boat. How will they look in 10 years? Don’t think either classic designs. The CR-V controversially wins this part of the comparison.

Honda CR-V Vs the Range Rover Evoque interior comparison: The CR-V interior in a nice and modern place to be lots of practical storage places, good materials and design. The dash is digital and has a tablet style infotainment system including Apple and Android connectivity. It is clearly designed to be lived in as easily as possible for a family although there are some material short cuts. Being completely honest there is nothing truly disappointing just why not metal like the interior door handles. The interior of the Evoque is Ok for the price despite having standard cloth seats but it is a little sparse unless hitting the option packs. As standard only the motorised gear selector is completely modern as the materials around it are probably the same as the Suzuki Grand Vitara and that’s over 10 years old. What ever is missing it is the features required for an luxury SUV at this price such as electric seats and an automatic gearbox at this price. First impression win goes to the CR-V considering it’s on the road price is $14,000 less than the Evoque.

Honda CR-V Vs the Range Rover Evoque engine and technology: The top range CR-V has all the latest safety systems and ton of gadgets including digital radio power memory seats, vaguely useful motorised tailgate and so forth but admittedly nothing out of the ordinary. The CR-V has a decent turbo petrol engine but with a CVT so it not a exactly a ‘sports’ inspired SUV simply decent daily driver which is it’s target. The Evoque is of course aimed at a different set of buyers as not only smaller but it’s starting price is $10,000 more on road than the top range CR-V. For the price difference you get a decent entry level turbo diesel but a manual and little else. Sure more extensive models have a more powerful petrol engine shared with the Ford Focus but nothing really worth mentioning as standard even lacking a blind spot monitor which is essential due the restrictive rear windows. However dig into the options list and all the features can be added but the price is too steep.

Honda CR-V Vs the Range Rover Evoque on road: Simply put the Evoque drives nicely, a little noisy due to expectation and not particularly fast but handles well despite boasting a reasonable amount of power, no better than a Corolla we also own. We are yet to drive the new CR-V.

The winner of the Honda CR-V Vs the Range Rover Evoque is a draw! It is clear that the Evoque sells on brand alone, perceived prestige and luxury. At the price that closely matches the top range CR-V it does not feel like an SUV with a starting price of $60,000 and raising steeply. Even more so when driving and certainly does not feel like a luxury SUV which is the main problem. No argument the CR-V is better value and looks and feels just as good if not better. In the end it is the Range Rover brand that may attract some people and the high entry level price makes it more exclusive and them more appealing. Just don’t buy a white Evoque because everybody will know you are a brand snob as opposed actually having the money to spend to option a different a coloured paint job. So yes the Evoque an aspirational model – and yes if you think the Range Rover brand means something. Finally remember not to mention the turbo rip off trick in the Evoque or that it shares the same engine with the Ford Focus and that it should be cheap to run but isn’t thanks to the branding.

<td style="text-align: left;" colspan="2" valign="top" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"
