The Jeep Compass is an ‘all new’ 2018 model and much needed update to the original release 10 years ago that was surprisingly based on a concept show car. The original model was quite different to a traditional Jeep design and consequently it didn’t sell very well. Although it was substantially updated a few years later with a all new front end it still didn’t look quite right. Finally the all new model has taken a step backwards and is clearly designed to look like a smaller Grand Cherokee which is debatably better looking. The Jeep Renegade was surprising release as it was also quite different in looks from the tradition Jeep – sort off. Once again the two models cross over in price hence this comparison.

Jeep Compass Vs Jeep Renegade exterior comparison: The Jeep Renegade is a good looking and modern interpretation of a tradition Jeep Cherokee of the 70’s but with a fixed roof. We like the Renegade’s proportions and the retro elements like the lighting and that it looks different from all the other small SUVs currently on sale. The new Compass is nice looking but too conservative and blends into any other smallish SUV currently on sale. While both are different design styles we prefer the Jeep Renegade as it is different.

Jeep Compass Vs Jeep Renegade interior comparison: The Renegade is the older model on the inside and it does show as the materials and design are not a modern compared to the Compass. The original price of the Renegade and it reduction 12 months later is still on the ridiculous side for the cheapish presentation n 2018. Nonetheless it is an airy place and quite nice to be in although dark. The Compass is a step up compare to the Renegade in term of materials and design having slightly better materials and conservative design. The best part of the Compass is the impressive seat height adjustment a great feature of short legged or generally short people and the tiny Loch ness monster on the rear window. However there are cheaper parts in one critical area the start and stop button is just a penny pinching choice that ultimately indicates cheap build quality in both models underneath. Finally the jeep logo and stylised front end graphics located through out the cabin is on the silly side. In terms of size there are pretty much equal, just the shape is different.

Jeep Compass Vs Jeep Renegade engine and technology comparison: Being Jeep’s you’d expect to find same engines and transmissions. That applies to the common 2.4 – 4 cylinder engine and automatic transmission. The Jeep Renegade doesn’t have any powerful engines and due to being quite heavy although helped by the mostly 6 or 9 speed automatic transmission. The Jeep Compass really needs the diesel engine as it is a heavy weight as the 2.4 litre is a little underpowered. The Trailhawk model range toppers and those optioned with 4WD have extra low range gears and higher ground clearance for more off road capability which is nice to have. The biggest problem for both Compass and Renegade is the minimal safety equipment which is optional or not available. The comprehensive stereo system including Apple and Android connectivity, navigation and the Beats stereo is a nice option for the price range but not the best.

Jeep Compass Vs Jeep Renegade drive report : N/A

The conclusion and winner of the Jeep Compass Vs Jeep Renegade comparison is the Compass. Although neither can win a comparison due to the lack of emergency auto brakes the better one of the two is the Compass. It is more modern and looks the price. The Renegade is still too expensive for an older and cheaper looking model on the inside despite being in the same price range. The poor choice of engines and heavy weight doesn’t help either. Only Jeep fans and those who like the look need only consider the pair as the competition is much better value or cheaper, safer, faster and more economical.

// google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
