We are on a roll with the ute reviews and we decided to focus Holden Colorado for this comparison. The updated Colorado is definitely an underrated ute and although its not it’s not one of our favourites it does have lots of appeal. The Hilux is one of the popular Utes in the country and so far it’s not too hard to see why. Popularity doesn’t mean it’s the best model to buy as in our opinion there are more influential things than just spec lists.

Toyota Hilux vs Holden Colorado exterior comparison: For us the Colorado is not a particularly look looking Ute, sure it looks big but it also looks out of date. The Hilux for us looks to have the right proportions and looks like a modern design but most of all in the popular SR5 model looks like a sport truck. As we always say, Holden needs to use the same design as their US model not the commercial grade Asian version. The top range LTZ Colorado version has black decals or stickers to make it look different just revels what their think of their would be purchases. It’s insulting really.

Toyota Hilux vs Holden Colorado interior comparison: The Hilux has the most memorable and modern interior design. Some of the fittings like the instrument cluster do need to be updated but it’s good enough to be a nice place to be in. The Colorado interior has been given an impressive update, 80% difference from the donor Isuzu D-Max although not quite up to the competition.

Toyota Hilux vs Holden Colorado engine and technology comparison: Both have the basic level of safety system for 2018, meaning plenty of airbags, ABS traction control and so forth. parking sensors for the rear or front are missing which is understandable but annoying on most models. The stereo systems in both are decent with the Hilux having better sound quality although the infotainment system is not the easy to use interface although everything is there. The engine are the main difference both having new generation turbo diesels. Both are reliable to date and both have their characteristics and issues, plenty of detailed info elsewhere. The Colorado engine is more powerful but the Hilux has the disadvantage of being a tight engine when new. We can’t believe how so called ‘professional’ reviewers miss this we’ll known fact about Hilux engines.

Toyota Hilux vs Holden Colorado street cred comparison: Arguably this is the biggest factor in choosing between the Colorado and the Hilux is the street cred factor. The Colorado does not have a particularly notable branding only when you mention the ‘Rodeo’ does it have some recognition. Some mention Ford Colorado as question which was also interesting. Everyone knew what a Hilux was.

The winner of the Toyota Hilux vs Holden Colorado comparison is the Hilux. We think that the Hilux package is the better one especially around the $50,000 price point for both commercial and private buyers. The Colorado is a nice package too but it is too big and expensive which is why the prices dropped quickly after launch. Maybe if Holden gave it more traditional Chevrolet design clues might help. That said both manufacturers are offering plenty of deals so that should deter any potential buyer from at least looking at both. Unfortunately that’s where the Colorado hits a big barrier, it’s not good looking enough and not branded enough.

<td style="text-align: left;
