Everyone knows what the Mitsubishi Triton is about and for us it’s the best value Ute on sale in 2018 meanwhile the Foton Tunland a completely unknown brand and model. After many months of trying to find a dealer yet alone see a Tunland in real life, here are our first comparison with one of the best ute’s Mitsubishi Triton.

Mitsubishi Triton vs Foton Tunland exterior comparison: There’s not much to say about the design, the Tunland looks like a 10 year old model with the front end the only modern design element. The Triton is arguably the most adventurous Ute design although it now looks quite familiar. If you where buying on looks alone then we don’t think the Tunland would win your vote but if you where after something more commercial looking than perhaps the Tunland is the model to get.

Mitsubishi Triton vs Foton Tunland interior comparison: The Tunland has a good interior for the price and was recently updated in a surprising fashion to a best described as a GM/Nissan inspired design. It does look and feel good for the price if the top range model. In comparison the Triton interior is a nice place to be, considering it’s price and age but it could use an update to materials.

Mitsubishi Triton vs Foton Tunland engines and technology comparison: The Tunland is a bit of a surprise, heavily promoting the key parts of it’s construction. The Tunland boasts a Cummins diesel engine, Getrag 5 speed but nondescript 6 speed auto, a DANA axle and whether this means anything to you… In 2018 the Tunland still needs commercial focused and branded parts to appeal and imply reliability. Cummins engines are known for longevity but it also depend on what parts they’ve fitted to it. Also a word of warning the tech changes occur often so you need to be careful what spec you are looking at. The Triton on the other hand has the latest tech including 4WD with locking diffs and a AWD mode for sealed roads the only short fall is the 5 speed auto which while adequate is not a flexible as a 6 speed if matched to the engine.

Mitsubishi Triton vs Foton Tunland drive: N/A

Mitsubishi Triton vs Foton Tunland street cred: If you where a tradie we don’t think this is the ute for you. Basically you will be defending your purchase to everyone and unfortunately it also reveals your bias for cheapness over known quality. Maybe over time Foton will be able to build it’s brand as Hyundai or Kia, so it might change but in 2018 Foton has little street cred. Perhaps if they tried a courier or taxi company would certainly prove it’s credentials. We also feel that Foton is arguably the closet to a decent brand image as it doesn’t seem to market themselves on being the cheapest ute in Australia.

The winner Mitsubishi Triton Vs Foton Tunland comparison is the Triton. The Triton is a low risk choice compared to the Foton Tunland is yet to find it any sort of consistency in spec and pricing. One week it’s under $30000 and than $35,000 and so forth and we would feel ripped of if we bought one the week before the next sale. Foton’s service, support and reliability is the other unknown and genuine factor to consider since they’ve only been around since 2012. At around $30,000 for the Foton Tunland it is still a good amount of money but in comparison to the Triton’s consistent fair prices prices is hard to go past.

<td style="text-align: left;
