All new for 2018 we decided to compare the Mercedes Benz X Class and ever popular Toyota Hilux. So far we think the the X-Class is decent enough but a little overpriced so how does it compares to the ever popular Hilux?

Mercedes-Benz X-Class Vs Toyota Hilux exterior comparison: The X-Class does not have a a clean sheet design for a ute but it clearly didn’t do too much visually from the donor Navara. Sure there are probably technical challenges to changing a design but clearly they did not spend enough – ripped off – uses! The Hilux on the other hand has the profile of a commercial ute and it’s predecessors but Toyota has seen fit to make it as new and modern as possible and it’s noticeably different to it’s competitors.

Mercedes-Benz X-Class Vs Toyota Hilux interior comparison: The interior design of the X-Class it pretty good and different from the other utes in the class and clearly based on the car range rather than the exisiting commercial range. As a result top range models are very upmarket in presentation but the lower end models are very hard plastic. The Hilux has a lot of hard plastics too but it just looks decent rather than cheap. The Hilux’s modern design although smaller just feels decent to be in. Only the top range X-Class leaves an impression of expense leaving the lower end models in the same impression as the low end Hilux models.

Mercedes-Benz X-Class Vs Toyota Hilux street engine and technology comparison: Both have the latest engine and safety systems dependent on the model grade. The X-Class shares engines and safety systems with the Navara so nothing out of the ordinary – except for auto emergency brakes in some model grades and a first in the class for 2018. The stereo system aka infotainment system in the X-Class is worth a mention for it’s speed, volume but again dependent on model grade and option packs. The only problem with the X-Class is that it’s not replaceable where as you can upgrade the Hilux although not as easy as in Hilux’s of old.

Mercedes-Benz X-Class Vs Toyota Hilux street cred comparison: The street cred comparison can be best summarised as if you can’t tell you have a Mercedes Benz in the driveway then the badge doesn’t work.

The winner of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class Vs Toyota Hilux comparison is the neither. All things considered the X-Class is a wider Nissan Navara with different interior and front end. Sure the X-Class can be optioned with auto emergency brakes but it’s not a standard feature and expensive and more to the point the top range X-Class still needs some options to really feel like a Mercedes Benz. You can get a top range SR5 Hilux for the price the entry level X-Class. Is the badge worth the price difference – no not in 2018. Perhaps when the X-Class gains some sort of history in another 10 years or so if they make the right marketing moves.

<td style="text-align: left;
