Continuing our series of comparisons and review of the MG ZS we put it up against the Holden Trax, a small SUV that really was underdone and overpriced when released. It has been updated hence a renewed interest from us. The MG ZS does impress on the surface for equipment but not safety and definitely price. However we don’t think it’s true competitors are these new small SUVs but the second hand market for various reasons.

MG ZS Vs Holden Trax exterior comparison: Although the Trax has been updated with a regular slotted grill but the original release as pictured was beaver like and how marketing actually approved the design really shows how much they are just do get it. Clearly a South Korean or Daewoo inspired ‘original’ design but at least it looks well proportioned but very conservative. The MG ZS is the complete opposite to the Kona using design themes used by other manufacturers at least it’s not completely ugly or copy but it comes close. If only Holden of GM added some more upmarket parts

MG ZS Vs Holden Trax interior comparison: As we’ve said before the the MG ZS has a nice interior for the price and it even betters the cheap looking Hyundai Kona but no where near the level of the CX-3 or CH-R. The Holden Trax is now a nicer place to be in after the update and more modern compared to the MG ZS. The initial 2013 Holden interior was a cheap place to be in. However it recived the much needed upgrade in 2017 using one of the many design versions available.

MG ZS Vs Holden Trax engines and and technology comparison: The MG ZS is too new for any genuine reports on reliability but it’s safety rating has been published and it’s not up to new car standards but cars 10 years ago. That said the engine choices seem good for the class but the 4 speed auto in the base model is an unnecessary cost saving. Much will choice the more expensive but better equipped top range MG ZS. The MG ZS does not have a fixed price servicing of the model range so and price saving is clawed back in the hidden and higher servicing costs. The Holden Trax hasn’t received any engine or transmission upgrades and by all accounts is powerful enough.

MG ZS Vs Holden Trax drive comparison: N/A

The winner of the MG ZS Vs Holden Trax is the Trax. The top range MG ZS starts at the base model Holden Trax which is the same with all it’s competitors. The main problem with the Trax is it’s historic pricing and legacy. It was expensive and was simply not worth buying. Holden management self destructed or simply don’t know how to sell cars or SUVs other than the discontinued Commodore. Their entire new model range is based on Daewoo and South Korean designs that look cheap and dated yet were asking above the normal prices for them. However and thankfully the Trax’s interior has been updated and price reduced so we guess it’s worth a second look at the Trax. In comparison buy the MG ZS if money is more important to you, are shallow and don’t care what you drive and perhaps be a trailblazer for reporting reliability and ownership stories. Also comment on their old school and rather hazy servicing costs.

// google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
